Twister Dinner and a Movie Night
A nostalgic movie night inspired by one of my favorite childhood films, Twister.
Some movies just stick with you. Twister is one of those for me.
I absolutely loved Bill Paxton growing up, and this has always been one of my favorite movies. At the same time, it scared the living daylights out of me. To this day, tornadoes are still my biggest natural disaster fear, and I am pretty sure this movie is the reason why.
When I was younger, I took a cross country road trip with my grandparents. Driving through Kansas was unforgettable. We never got close to them, but I remember seeing several tornadoes in the distance, including one double tornado. Even from far away they completely took your breath away.
I also remember seeing Twister in theaters when it first came out. It scared me, but like the hopeless romantic I am, I also loved the love story.
It is one of those movies that mixes heart, adventure, and just enough fear to make it unforgettable.
So when I started planning my brand new Rewind and Dine Cookbook, a collection inspired by the movies of my childhood, I knew this one had to be first.
And honestly, this might be one of the most creative meals I have ever created.
Matt thought the whole thing was awesome, and I have to admit I was pretty proud of how it all came together.
The Twister Movie Night Menu
For this Twister themed dinner, I leaned into some of the most memorable moments from the film and turned them into a full dinner and a movie experience.

The Tornado Drink
This drink might be my favorite part of the entire meal.
I served lemonade in a cylindrical champagne flute so the shape looked like a tornado. A pinch of silver luster dust gives the drink a swirling storm effect, and when you give it a quick stir it truly looks like a tornado spinning inside the glass.
To finish it off, I topped it with white cotton candy and added a tiny flying cow cutout. If you know the movie, you know exactly why.
It was cheeky, fun, and honestly kind of a masterpiece.
Dorothy’s Storm Snacks
A Twister Themed Appetizer
For the appetizer, I wanted something that looked like the tornado trackers from the movie.
So I found clear sphere containers that look just like the little Dorothy sensors that get launched into the storm.
Inside each sphere I made a mini charcuterie snack. A layer of nuts on the bottom, a small charcuterie rose with cheese on a toothpick, plus a grape, a rosemary sprig, half a strawberry, and a little cracker tucked in the back.
Not to toot my own horn, but this one felt pretty brilliant.
They looked almost exactly like the pieces inside the tornado tracker.
Aunt Meg’s Steak Dinner
The Comfort Food Star of the Movie
If you have seen Twister, you know the scene.
The storm chasers arrive at Aunt Meg’s house and she serves up the most incredible looking steak dinner with eggs, mashed potatoes, and gravy.
As a total meat and potatoes girl, I always dreamed about trying that meal when I was a kid. It just looked so warm and comforting.
So of course I had to recreate it.
Juicy steak, creamy mashed potatoes, and Meg’s famous gravy. It was simple, hearty, and absolutely delicious.
Even with all the creative elements in this dinner, this dish was the star of the show.
The steak and potatoes did not disappoint.

Eye of the Storm Pastries
The Twister Dessert
This dessert actually started with another recipe.
A few weeks ago I made a Cars inspired brunch board and created the Cozy Cone snacks from Disneyland using puff pastry. While making those, I realized the cone shape would be perfect for a tornado dessert.
That idea turned into these Eye of the Storm Pastries.
Flaky puff pastry wrapped into a tornado shape and filled with cheesecake filling and whipped cream. I served them standing upright in fry holders so they looked like little tornadoes spinning on the table.
It took a couple tries to get the filling just right. The first version was too soft and did not hold its shape well. Once I adjusted the filling, they came out perfect.
Honestly… 10 out of 10.
A Nostalgic Movie Night Worth Recreating
This Twister movie night ended up being one of my favorite dinners I’ve created in a long time.
It was nostalgic, a little playful, and packed with little details that fans of the movie will instantly recognize. From the flying cow in the drink to the Dorothy storm tracker snacks and Aunt Meg’s iconic steak dinner, every dish was inspired by a moment from the film.
And that’s what I love most about these Dinner and a Movie nights.
They turn watching a movie into a full experience.

Just maybe don’t watch it during a thunderstorm.
