Here is the thing about Guardians of the Galaxy. It should not work. A talking raccoon, a walking tree who says three words, a green assassin, a guy who calls himself Star-Lord when nobody else will, and a man who takes everything completely literally. On paper that is a disaster. In execution it is the greatest ensemble in the MCU. And I say that as someone who has now watched the entire Marvel universe twice, the second time specifically to write a cookbook about it.

Guardians is my favorite MCU movie. I have thought about why and I keep coming back to the same answer. Every friend group has these people. You have the one who is all bravado and no self-awareness but would die for you. The one who says exactly what they are thinking with zero filter. There is the chaotic genius who pretends not to care and cares the most. Someone who quietly holds everyone together. You have the one who is actually terrifying but only when it counts. That is just every group of friends I have ever had. James Gunn understood something true about people and wrapped it in a classic rock playlist, and I will never be over it.

The music alone. I cannot talk about this movie without talking about the music. Music has been enormous in my life for as long as I can remember, and the fact that Awesome Mix Vol. 1 is basically a character in this film made me fall in love with it on a completely different level. A movie that opens with a kid dancing to Come and Get Your Love while on an alien planet should not be that emotionally affecting. And yet.

I built this menu to match the movie. A little chaotic, a lot of personality, surprisingly elegant underneath all the fun.

Rocket’s Blaster Fuel

I wanted this drink to look like the galaxy. That was the whole brief I gave myself. And I think we nailed it.

The layering technique here is what makes it work. Blue curaçao on the bottom, sweetened butterfly pea flower tea in the middle, lemonade on top, poured slowly over the back of a spoon so the colors stay distinct. The butterfly pea flower tea is the secret weapon. It brews this deep, moody blue that shifts into purple when it hits the lemon, and the result in the glass is exactly what you want it to be: cosmic. It looks like something you would order at a space bar run by an aggressive raccoon and that is entirely intentional.

The galaxy sprinkle rim sealed the deal. The blueberries and fresh mint on top made it feel finished. Do not stir it. The whole point is watching those colors swirl together as you drink it, which is also basically the plot of Guardians if you think about it.

This Is a Salad

This one is named after Drax and if you have seen the movie you already understand.

The man has absolutely no concept of metaphor. None. Zero. He takes everything literally and says everything out loud and I find him deeply funny in a way I cannot fully explain. So when I needed to name a salad, there was only one option.

Mixed greens, cherry tomatoes, red onion, feta, balsamic vinaigrette. It is a very good, very straightforward salad. But the star-shaped croutons are the detail that makes me unreasonably happy. You just use a small star cookie cutter on your bread before you bake them, and suddenly a simple side salad has a personality. It is also a nod to the galaxy without being heavy handed about it, which feels right for a dish named after a man who would not understand what heavy handed means.

Star-Lord’s Steak & Frites with Gamora’s Deadly Chimichurri

I want to talk about how I used to be genuinely terrible at cooking meat.

Not bad. Terrible. The kind of terrible where you cut into a steak and it is somehow both gray and still bleeding at the same time. The kind where you stand over the pan doing mental math and lying to yourself that it is probably done. For years I avoided it because the anxiety of not knowing just ruined the whole experience.

This past Christmas my husband got me a Meater thermometer. For anyone who has not encountered one, it is a wireless probe that monitors your meat temperature in real time and tells you exactly when to pull it. It sounds simple. It changed everything.I am now genuinely obsessed with cooking meat because I am not guessing anymore. No more cutting into it every thirty seconds like a nervous wreck. It comes out perfect every single time. Grab one right here — it is hands down my favorite kitchen tool.

The Steak That Converted Me

These ribeyes were perfect. Good fat cap, cooked to a gorgeous medium rare pink, rested properly before slicing. That last part is non-negotiable. Let it rest or you will lose all your juice to the cutting board and you will be sad about it.

Now. The fries. I am very proud of the fries and I need you to know that.

The smoked paprika gives them this deep, slightly spicy exterior and the cornstarch soak is what makes them actually crispy instead of soft and sad. But the detail that made me genuinely excited was cutting a few of them into star shapes before cooking. It is a tiny thing. It is completely unnecessary. It is exactly the kind of extra that I live for. Star-Lord gets a star. It makes sense. I stand by it.

Gamora’s Deadly Chimichurri has been in my dinner rotation for years. This is not a new discovery. I started making chimichurri a while back and landed on this version and just never left. Parsley, cilantro, shallot, garlic, good olive oil, red wine vinegar, lemon, red pepper flakes. It sits for at least fifteen minutes before you serve it and that rest time is everything. It goes from tasting like chopped herbs to tasting like something cohesive and bright and properly dangerous on a steak. Gamora is the most lethal member of the team and this sauce is the most lethal thing on this table. The name is correct.

I Am Groot

I built this entire menu around this dessert and I need you to understand how proud I am of that sentence.

It started with my Jurassic Park menu. I used kataifi pastry for the first time to make these dino nest appetizers, little golden crispy nests with eggs sitting inside them, and they were not just visually perfect, they were genuinely delicious. I have been thinking about how to use kataifi again ever since.

Then Dubai chocolate became the thing everyone was losing their minds over. You know the one. The pistachio cream, the chocolate, the crunch. And I thought: what if I made a deconstructed version of that but made it look like Groot grew out of the ground on your plate?

The Dessert That Started With Dinosaurs

So that is what this is. A bed of golden toasted kataifi. A scoop of pistachio cream sitting in the center like a little sprout. Melted chocolate drizzled over everything. Cookie crumbs and crushed Biscoff scattered around for that earthy dirt effect. Fresh mint tucked in at the top to look like leaves. And the I Am Groot topper planted right in the middle.

It looks like a tiny Groot emerging from the forest floor. I did not expect it to be this good. The kataifi stays crispy even after the cream is on top and the whole thing is rich and crunchy and pistachio forward with little hits of chocolate all the way through. Everyone who saw this photo before eating it asked what it was. Everyone who ate it asked for the recipe.

I am groot, and so are you.

The Full Galaxy Spread

When everything was on the table, it hit different. Two plates of steak. Two galaxy cocktails glowing purple and blue. The Groot desserts lined up with their little flags. The salad with its star croutons. The menu card front and center. The TV behind it all doing its job.

This is the kind of table that makes you stop before you sit down. My husband and I looked at it for a second before we touched anything and that moment is the whole point of what I do here.
