That Finally Made It Out of the Vault

I was nine years old the first time I saw Toy Story in a movie theater and I remember sitting there with my jaw somewhere around my knees. Nothing had ever looked like that before. The animation was unlike anything I had seen, but more than that, the story hit differently than I expected from an animated film. Woody and Buzz weren’t just toys. They were dealing with jealousy and identity and the fear of being replaced, and somehow I understood all of it at nine years old sitting in a dark theater. The Toy Story series has been my favorite ever since, and when I tell you I am LOSING MY MIND over Toy Story 5 coming out this week, I mean it unironically at forty-two years old. Zero shame.

Here’s the thing though. I made this snack board months ago, long before I had a catalog of awesome themed boards. It was only my second snack board ever. I looked at how it turned out and thought, okay, I actually did something here, and then I just… never blogged it. Life, content overwhelm, the usual chaos. It sat in a folder on my computer like a toy in a box in the attic, which honestly is the most Toy Story thing that could have happened.

With Toy Story 5 arriving this week, it felt like the universe was telling me to pull it out of the vault. So here we are.

Mini Pizza Planet Pizzas

Pizza Planet is one of those details that lives in the back of your brain from childhood and just never leaves. The red checkered logo, the arcade games, the claw machine with the Little Green Men. It is burned into the memory of every kid who grew up in the nineties and I was not going to do a Toy Story board without it.

For these I used personal sized Red Baron pizzas, which honestly are perfect for this. You can absolutely make your own if you want to go full homemade, but there is zero shame in the Red Baron route. The real magic is in the box. I ordered mini pizza boxes and printed the Pizza Planet logo onto sticker paper, then stuck it right on the front. The result looks like something straight out of Andy’s living room and the effort level is truly reasonable. Slinky Dog Crescent Roll Bites

This was my first time ever putting Slinky Dog on a board and I am genuinely proud of how they turned out. The concept is simple: thin strips of crescent dough wrapped around a hot dog and baked until golden. I always use the crescent dough sheets rather than the perforated rolls because you get clean strips without the seams fighting you. Once they come out of the oven, you add Slinky Dog character picks, which I made myself by googling a Slinky Dog image, printing it out, cutting it out, and taping it to a toothpick. The whole thing takes about ten minutes of actual effort and looks like you planned it for weeks.

There’s a Snake in My Boot Dirt Cups

I could not do a Toy Story board without committing fully to this bit and I am glad I did. These are individual cups layered with chocolate pudding, crushed Oreos, and gummy worms standing up out of the top like they just crawled out of Woody’s boot. The “There’s a Snake in My Boot” flag picks are printed the same way as the Slinky Dog picks and they tie the whole gag together. It is one of those snacks where the visual does all the work. They taste exactly like you want them to and they look ridiculous in the best possible way.

Little Green Alien Donuts

A striped popcorn cup filled with kettle chips and a couple of Mr. Potato Head character pieces tucked in alongside them. That is genuinely the whole thing. I found the Mr. Potato Head pieces on Etsy and they are the detail that makes people stop and look twice. Sometimes the simplest elements on a board are the ones that land hardest.

Nerd Clusters

These are on the board because they are colorful, they photograph beautifully, and honestly they are delicious. Sometimes a snack earns its place just by looking exactly right.

Little Green Alien Donuts

Okay these are my favorite thing on this entire board and I need a moment. Small donuts dipped in green royal icing, which is just powdered sugar and the tiniest amount of milk, and then topped with edible eyeball sprinkles before the icing sets. Three eyes. Little open mouths from the donut hole. They are the Little Green Men and they are absurdly cute. I did not know how well this was going to work when I started making them and then they came out of the icing and I genuinely said oh my gosh out loud to no one.

The icing is the key. You want it thick enough to coat but not so thick it won’t settle smooth, and you want to add the eyes immediately before it starts to set so they stick in place. Work fast and they will look perfect every single time.

The Whole Toy Story Snack Board Together

Pulling this tray together felt like visiting an old friend. I honestly cannot believe I let this one sit in a folder for as long as I did, but in true Toy Story fashion, it found its way back out into the world exactly when it needed to.
