Home Alone Dinner and A Movie Night

Every year when the first Christmas lights start to twinkle, there’s only one movie that truly kicks off the season in our house, Home Alone. It’s nostalgic, chaotic, and completely perfect. I was a kid when it came out, and let’s be honest… we all secretly wished our families would disappear for a few days so we could live like Kevin McCallister. Pizza for dinner, ice cream for dessert, and total freedom? Yes, please.
It’s a holiday staple that never gets old, no matter how many times I watch it. The booby traps still make me laugh, the soundtrack still gives me chills, and Kevin’s independent little smirk still makes me cheer him on every single time. This one is always the first movie I watch when the holiday season begins.
If you’re planning your own Home Alone viewing party, I’ve got the ultimate themed menu that will make you feel like you’re right there in the McCallister kitchen, minus the screaming family chaos.
And if you love turning your favorite holiday movies into magical mealtime moments, you can grab this full Home Alone Dinner and a Movie menu (plus 11 more like Elf, Miracle on 34th Street and How the Grinch Stole Christmas!) in my Christmas Dinner and a Movie Cookbook. It’s packed with cozy Christmas dinner ideas, holiday movie and meal pairings, and festive recipes perfect for every family movie night.

The Menu
Drink: The Wet Bandit
Our main cocktail of the night is as festive as it is funny. Inspired by Harry and Marv’s “wet bandit” alter egos, this drink is a clear, sparkling cocktail with cranberries frozen into the bottom to look like little red ornaments and a sprig of rosemary standing tall like a Christmas tree. It’s crisp, merry, and just mischievous enough to fit the theme.
You can make a mocktail version by swapping the liquor for sparkling water or lemon-lime soda, it’s just as refreshing and totally family-friendly.
And of course, we couldn’t forget the two most iconic Home Alone beverages:
- Fuller, Go Easy on the Pepsi (for obvious bladder-related reasons)
- Kevin’s Milk, because who else drinks milk with their mac and cheese before taking down two burglars?

Appetizer: Little Nero’s Side Salad
A nod to the famous pizza delivery guy who got an earful of “Keep the change, ya filthy animal!” Little Nero’s might not deliver in your area, but you can still start your meal with a simple, crisp side salad inspired by their classic delivery order.
Think fresh romaine, cherry tomatoes, and shaved parmesan with your favorite dressing. It’s light, fresh, and a good balance before the cheesy chaos of the main course.

Entrées: A Lovely Cheese Pizza (Just for Me) + Highly Nutritious Mac & Cheese
The second Kevin’s family disappears, he wastes no time ordering his dream dinner, a lovely cheese pizza just for himself. I couldn’t leave that off the menu.
For my version, I served up a Little Nero’s style pizza box filled with fresh-baked cheesy goodness. The golden crust, melted mozzarella, and just a hint of oregano make it the perfect movie night bite.
And of course, it wouldn’t be a Home Alone Dinner and a Movie Night without Kevin’s pre-burglary dinner…macaroni and cheese. You know the scene: Kevin sits at the table, candles lit, hands folded, ready to enjoy his “highly nutritious” meal before defending his house. For our version, we made it from scratch with creamy cheddar and a crispy baked top. Comforting, rich, and worthy of a Christmas Eve showdown.

Dessert: The Junk Board
When you’re home alone, calories don’t count ,and neither do serving sizes. Inspired by the iconic “junk food feast” scene, we built a Home Alone Junk Board filled with everything a kid (or kid-at-heart) could dream of.
Oreo cookies, gummy bears, chocolate chips, mini marshmallows, cookie dough bites, sprinkles, Reese’s Pieces, M&M’s, waffle cones, and mountains of whipped cream. We paired it with a few tubs of Ben & Jerry’s for the ultimate sundae bar.
Everyone can build their own masterpiece. Just grab a spoon and dig in.

Behind the Scenes of our Home Alone Dinner and a Movie
This dinner and a movie night felt like pure Christmas nostalgia. From the glow of the colorful lights to the cheesy pizza and candy chaos, it brought out every ounce of childhood joy. I even made Kevin’s famous “battle plan” as décor behind the food setup, because what’s Home Alone without a little bit of chaos? Found it on Etsy here….and that pizza box can be found here…
If you’re planning a cozy Christmas movie night with your family, this menu is an absolute must. It’s playful, easy to make, and guaranteed to spark smiles all around the table.
