If you grew up in the ‘80s or ‘90s, there’s a good chance Beetlejuice both terrified and delighted you. For me, it was the movie that single-handedly scared me away from smoking forever (thanks, Juno, for that unforgettable puff-through-the-neck scene). But it was also one of my favorite spooky movies growing up…funny, weird, and just the right amount of creepy. So when the Beetlejuice sequel was announced, I knew exactly what I had to do: host the ultimate Beetlejuice dinner and a movie night. Complete with eerie cocktails, creepy-cute appetizers, and a dessert that’ll have you six feet under, in the best way.

Shrimp Cocktail (Inspired by the “Day-O” Dinner Scene)

Let’s start with something classic – shrimp cocktail, the kind that looks fancy but comes together faster than Beetlejuice can say his own name three times. The inspiration came straight from the unforgettable Day-O dinner scene. Those shrimp hands bursting out of the bowl? Iconic. Mine might not grab your face mid-bite, but they do look dramatic perched on the rim of a frosted glass with a dollop of cocktail sauce below.

It’s the perfect creepy appetizer that still feels elegant enough for a Halloween dinner party.

Sandworm Breadsticks

These little show-stoppers are the star of the night. Inspired by the striped sandworms that terrorize the afterlife, they’re made from simple crescent roll dough, twisted into snake shapes and painted with edible black stripes. I added tiny pepper eyes and a strip of sun-dried tomato for a tongue, then nestled them in a bed of crushed breadcrumbs for that desert-dune effect.

They’re eerie, adorable, and absolutely addictive, like Beetlejuice himself. These are guaranteed crowd-pleasers at any spooky dinner party or themed movie night menu.

The Ghost with the Most Creamy Garlic Pasta

This main dish was my husband’s favorite of the night, he said it was the best pasta I’ve ever made. Fitting for something named after the ghost with the most, right?

I used black and white striped bowtie pasta (because details matter, especially when you’re channeling Tim Burton’s wild aesthetic). Tossed in a creamy garlic sauce with sun-dried tomatoes and cherry tomatoes for a pop of color, this dish feels indulgent and a little chaotic, just like our favorite trickster spirit.

Here Lies Betelguise Brownies

I couldn’t resist giving dessert a tombstone twist. These fudgy brownies are served coffin-style, topped with crushed Oreos for “dirt” and decorated with gummy worms wriggling out of the grave.

They’re the kind of bloody dessert that doubles as table décor, spooky, silly, and perfect for your next Halloween feast.

Pro tip: bake them in small coffin tins if you can find them. It takes the presentation from “cute” to “creepily cinematic.”

Juno’s Demise Chocolate Pretzels

Remember Juno, the chain-smoking caseworker from the afterlife? Yeah… this one’s for her. These pretzel “cigarettes” are dipped in white chocolate and rolled in edible black sugar “ashes,” with a touch of red sugar to look like burning embers.

They’re also one of my favorite unique Halloween treats because they double as conversation starters, and who doesn’t love an edible gag?

Turn on the Juice Cocktail

If you’ve ever wanted a drink that looks straight out of a Tim Burton dreamscape, this is it. A hypnotic layered cocktail that goes from neon green at the bottom to electric purple on top, with a rim of green “slime.”

I made it using Midori, vodka, and butterfly pea flower lemonade for that color-changing magic. Garnished with blackberries and a striped straw, it’s a creepy cocktail that photographs beautifully and tastes even better.

Turn on the juice and see what shakes loose – it’s the Beetlejuice motto, after all.

Bringing It All Together

This spooky dinner party was one of my favorites to date, not just because of the food, but because it brought back so many nostalgic memories.
