Cinderella Dinner and a Movie: A Fairy Tale Feast

You know those movies that just never get old? That somehow feel even better every time you watch them? Cinderella is that movie.

Whether it’s the nostalgic charm of the animated version or the breathtaking beauty of Disney’s live-action remake (which I will stand by as the BEST live-action Disney movie to date – fight me!), there’s just something about this fairy tale that keeps us coming back.

And honestly? I think I’ve watched it at least 100 times. So naturally, a Cinderella-themed dinner and a movie night was a must.

But why stop at just watching? You know that’s not how we roll around here! We are gonna make it a whole Disney Dinner and a Movie Experience! A magical meal, a layered drink, and maybe a little bibbidi bobbidi boo to bring it all together. We are doing the thing! And don’t worry, I’ve made it EASY for you to bring the magic into your own kitchen! Every recipe for this Cinderella Dinner and a Movie is in my Once Upon a Dinner and a Movie cookbook, along with magical menus inspired by classics like Hercules, Lilo and Stitch and Peter Pan… so all you have to do is follow along.

Stepping Into the Magic: Our Cinderella Dinner and a Movie Night

For this night, I wanted to go all out – a meal fit for royalty, filled with little nods to Cindy and her story. But this dinner was extra special because it was our last big dinner and a movie night in California before our big move.

So, much like Cinderella stepping into a new chapter, this meal felt like a fairytale worthy send-off before starting fresh in our new home in Arizona.

And let’s be real – this Cinderella Dinner and a Movie meal was for the cheese lovers (ahem, my husband). A Pumpkin Cheese Ball inspired by Cinderella’s pumpkin carriage? Say no more. A roast beef dinner that tastes like it came straight from the royal palace? Done. And let’s not forget dessert—because rice crispy treats should never be underestimated.

A Grand Menu Fit for a Fairy Tale

This meal was pure magic from start to finish. Here’s what’s on the menu!

Pumpkin Cheese Ball – Because Cinderella’s iconic carriage had to be represented, and also because I never say no to cheese. (Pro Tip: A good food processor and cheese grater – I swear this cheese grater is the BEST kitchen gadget I’ve ever bought – makes this appetizer extra smooth and creamy.)

🍖 Roast Beef with Mashed Potatoes & Buttery Lemon Asparagus – A meal fit for royalty, perfect for anyone who loves a classic, comforting dish that makes you feel fancy.

🪄 Magic Wand Treats – Let’s be real, I was way too excited about these. I hadn’t had a rice crispy treat in years, and these reminded me why they are elite.

🥂 Cindy’s Glass Slipper Cocktail – A sparkling, shimmering drink that felt just as magical as Cinderella’s transformation. Because what’s a royal evening without a little sparkle?

Setting the Scene: Cinderella-Inspired Decor

Now, what’s a fairytale foodie feast without the ambiance?

If you’re going full Cinderella, here are a few easy (and shoppable) ways to make your dining area fit for a royal ball:

👑 Cinderella-Themed Plates & Napkins – Because every fairytale meal deserves elegant dishware. Find them here!

🕯 Golden Candle Holders – Soft lighting elevates the entire experience (and makes your meal feel even fancier). Snag them here!

🎀 Fairy Lights – Create a little enchanting glow around the table with these warm twinkle lights.

✨ And of course, the best way to bring the magic?

Philips Hue Lights

I know I am totally sounding like a broken record here because I say this in every single blog post, but these lights have changed the way I watch movies forever. I am obsessed with them.

The Philips Hue Bridge and Light Strips sync with your TV, so while Cinderella’s blue dress shimmers across the screen, your entire room glows in that same dazzling blue. It’s like you’re actually in the ballroom.

A Night to Remember: Experience & Execution

I took a two-day approach to prepping this meal (because let’s be real, nobody likes cooking everything at once).

Day One: Prep the Pumpkin Cheese Ball and Magic Wand Treats ahead of time. Less stress = more fun!

Day Two: Roast the beef, whip up the mashed potatoes, sauté the asparagus, and mix up that shimmering cocktail (because fairy godmother magic deserves to be toasted).

Honestly? The roast beef stole the show for my husband. But for me, it was those crispy, gooey, nostalgic rice crispy treats. I cannot even tell you how many I snuck while I was cooking this meal. Sometimes, the simplest things really are the most magical.

Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo ✨ Just like that, the perfect dessert appeared! These Magic Wand Treats were the sweetest way to end our Cinderella dinner.

A Personal Fairy Tale: Why Cinderella Will Always Be Special

Cinderella was one of the first Disney movies I ever watched. As a kid, I was obsessed with the idea that a pumpkin could turn into a magical carriage (I mean, iconic). And if my memory serves me right – my mother in law says this was also Matt’s favorite Disney movie when he was a wee kiddo.

Fast forward, and now I’m cooking elaborate Cinderella-themed meals with my husband. If eight-year-old me could see this, she’d be losing her mind.

This full-circle moment – hosting my last dinner in California before picking up our lives and moving to Arizona felt like a little fairy tale moment of my own. Just like Cinderella stepping into a new chapter, we were doing the same.

If you love princess themed Disney Dinners – Cinderella is just the start — be sure to venture under the sea with The Little Mermaid Dinner and a Movie – or head to Genovia for a Disney Dinner and a Movie inspired by The Princess Diaries.
