I actually watched it on a flight home from California with my husband last holiday season, and we both ended up quoting it the entire way back. There’s just something about Buddy’s unfiltered joy that makes you believe in Christmas magic again, even when you’re eating pretzels and peanuts at 30,000 feet. So you know an Elf Dinner and a Movie is a given any holiday season.

Elf Dinner and a Movie: The Menu

Drink: The 4 Main Food Groups

You can’t have an Elf night without paying tribute to Buddy’s famous quote:
“We elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns, and syrup.”
This drink is sweet, creamy, and unapologetically over the top, just like Buddy himself. It’s a dessert cocktail that tastes like a vanilla milkshake met a candy cane martini. I rimmed the glass in crushed peppermint, added a mini candy cane, and topped it with candy corn and whipped cream. It’s pure Christmas joy in a glass.

Appetizer: You Smell Like Beef and Cheese Board

For the appetizer, I had to nod to that iconic line from Buddy’s showdown with the mall Santa.
“You sit on a throne of lies!” still cracks me up every time.
So of course, I created a “You Smell Like Beef and Cheese Board.”

It’s a festive Christmas tree-shaped board layered with meats, cheeses, and holiday-hued fruits, raspberries, green olives, dried apricots, and chocolate rounds for a little sweetness. A cheddar star tops the “tree,” because obviously, Buddy would have it shining bright. It’s elegant enough for guests but still playful enough for an Elf watch party. Win-win.

Main Course: Emily’s Spaghetti (Hold the Syrup)

Now, if you remember the dinner scene where Buddy drowns his spaghetti in maple syrup, you know exactly where this one’s headed.
But for my Elf night, I decided to keep things a little more human-friendly.

I made a cozy bowl of spaghetti and meatballs with marinara sauce, what I like to call “Emily’s Spaghetti, Hold the Syrup.” It’s classic, comforting, and perfect for balancing all that sugar you’re about to consume later. A sprinkle of Parmesan and a few basil leaves make it feel restaurant-worthy, but still easy enough for a weeknight dinner.

Dessert: Candy, Candy, Candy, and More Candy

This might just be my favorite part. Inspired by Buddy’s over-the-top spaghetti concoction, I created Buddy’s Spaghetti Board – a “make your own” dessert bar loaded with all four major food groups.

Instead of plain noodles, I swapped them for pancake noodles (because why not?), and set out bowls of mini marshmallows, chocolate chips, sprinkles, candy canes, and even tree-shaped Peeps. Guests can drizzle syrup, sprinkle toppings, and make their own sweet “spaghetti” creations.

It’s messy, hilarious, and surprisingly delicious. Basically, the kind of dessert Buddy would proudly serve to Santa himself.
