Disneyland’s Pizza Planet Chicken Fusilli – My Favorite Copycat Recipe!

Jump to Recipe

If you know, you know…and if you don’t, let me introduce you to the best pasta at Disneyland.

There are a million reasons to love Disneyland, but let’s be real – the real magic lies in the food! And for as long as I can remember, my absolute must-have meal every single trip is the Countdown Chicken Fusilli from Pizza Planet.

I’ve always been a chicken fettuccine kind of girl, but something about this dish sends me straight to the moon. The creamy, garlicky Alfredo sauce mixed with those little bursts of flavor from the sun-dried tomatoes? Pure perfection. It’s comfort food with a little kick, and I knew I had to recreate it at home – because, let’s face it, we can’t always be at Disneyland (as much as I wish we could).

So after many, many taste tests (tough job, I know), I’ve put together a copycat recipe that brings the magic right to your kitchen. And if you’re anything like me and my husband—aka people who take their pasta VERY seriously – you’re going to love this one.

Oh, and if you’re a Toy Story fan? This dish also doubles as the Slinky Dog Chicken Fusilli in our Toy Story Dinner and a Movie Night—a main course worthy of Andy’s toy box. More on that later.

Let’s get cooking! 🍝✨

🚀 The Secret to Pizza Planet Chicken Fusilli at Home

While I don’t have Disney’s exact recipe, I’ve done my best to match the flavor using what I think are the key ingredients. A couple of things to know before we start:

The pasta: I switched out the noodles, but I always go for the curly cue-shaped ones (like Slinky Dog’s tail!). Fusilli, rotini, or cavatappi all work.
The chicken: I use grilled boneless, skinless chicken breast, because that’s what gives it the best bite.
The sauce: It’s a rich, creamy Alfredo base with just enough garlic and sun-dried tomatoes to make it special.

🛒 What You’ll Need

Let’s break this down real quick—nothing fancy here, just good Disneyland-inspired flavors coming together to make something ridiculously good.

Curly cue pasta – Think fusilli, rotini, or cavatappi—basically, if it looks like it could be part of Slinky Dog, you’re on the right track.
Butter & garlic – Because what is pasta without garlic? (Nothing. The answer is nothing.)
Heavy cream & whole milk – This is what makes the sauce creamy, dreamy, and absolutely delicious.
Parmesan cheese – Freshly grated, because we’re fancy like that.
Sun-dried tomatoes – The MVP of this dish, bringing that little punch of tangy sweetness that makes it taste just like the Disneyland version.
Italian seasoning, salt, & pepper – Simple but effective.
Grilled chicken – Sliced and ready to be coated in that luscious sauce.

How it all comes together

To make this Disneyland-inspired Pizza Planet Chicken Fusilli, start by boiling your curly pasta—fusilli, rotini, or cavatappi—until al dente, then drain and set it aside. Meanwhile, melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat and sauté the minced garlic until fragrant. Pour in the heavy cream and milk, stirring as it simmers for a couple of minutes to create a rich, velvety base. Once the sauce is warm, stir in the freshly grated Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper, letting everything melt together into a smooth, creamy consistency. Next, add the sun-dried tomatoes and sliced grilled chicken, allowing the flavors to meld while the chicken soaks up the sauce. Toss in the cooked pasta, stirring well to coat every curly noodle with that luscious Alfredo goodness. If the sauce gets too thick, loosen it up with a splash of reserved pasta water until it reaches your preferred consistency. Serve immediately with extra Parmesan on top, and enjoy a bowl of Disney magic from the comfort of your own couch! 🚀✨

Oh, and if you’re a Pixar fan, this dish is also featured in my cookbook Just Keep Cooking: Dinner and a Movie—which has 12 other Pixar-inspired movie nights packed with fun, themed recipes. So basically, if you love Disney, movies, and food (which, let’s be honest, we both do), you’re going to want to check it out.

Ingredients

  • 8 oz 225g of Cavatappi, Fusilli, or Rotini Pasta
  • 2 boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 tablespoons 30ml olive oil, divided
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons 30g unsalted butter
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 cup 237ml heavy cream
  • ½ cup 50g grated Parmesan cheese
  • ½ cup 75g sun-dried tomatoes, drained and chopped
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • Fresh parsley chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  • Cook the pasta according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  • Season the chicken breast pieces with salt and black pepper to taste. In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the chicken and cook until golden brown and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil and the butter. Heat over medium heat until the butter melts. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  • Pour in the heavy cream and bring it to a gentle simmer. Let the cream simmer for a few minutes until it thickens slightly.
  • Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, dried basil, and dried oregano. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Continue to simmer the sauce for another 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
  • Add the cooked wheel pasta and cooked chicken back to the skillet with the creamy sun-dried tomato Alfredo sauce. Toss everything together gently until the pasta and chicken are well coated with the sauce.
  • Let the pasta simmer for a couple of minutes to heat through and allow the flavors to combine.
  • Remove the skillet from heat and garnish the pasta with fresh chopped parsley.
  • Serve the creamy sun-dried tomato Alfredo pasta with chicken immediately while it's still warm.
