The Freaky Friday Snack Board That Made Me Fall in Love With This Movie All Over Again

Freaky Friday has been one of my most requested movies for years, and I get it. I absolutely loved this movie as a kid. So when Freakier Friday hit theaters last summer, I did something Matt and I almost never do. We went to the theater. We are homebodies to our core. Movie nights at home with good food are literally my entire brand. But this was one of those movies I just could not wait for. Matt went begrudgingly, the way husbands do when you tell them you already bought the tickets, and then spent half the movie cracking up. So did I. For a sequel, it was just so good. And honestly, it made my heart so happy to see Lindsay Lohan looking happy and healthy up on that screen.

Then a few weeks ago I started a bit of a health journey, and here is a fun fact about me: I have terrible ADHD and physically cannot do just one thing at a time. So my morning cardio has become my research time. I turned on Freaky Friday one morning and fell in love all over again, one scene at a time, slightly out of breath. By the end I knew this board was happening immediately. You can find the printable tags that I used for this board at the bottom of this post.

I have not done a full Dinner & Movie Night for Freaky Friday yet, and after building this board I can tell you it is absolutely coming soon, homemade Chinese food and all. But today we are talking snack board. Here is everything that made the cut.

The Chinese Takeout Situation

There is NO world where a Freaky Friday board happens without Chinese takeout. None. The entire plot hinges on a meal at a Chinese restaurant, so this was non-negotiable. Now, a confession: there is really not a lot of great Chinese food near us in Surprise, AZ. It is one of the great tragedies of my life. But I love Panda Express, no shame, so Panda it was. I know the movie famously features Peking Duck, but I went with our actual favorites instead. Kung Pao for me, Beef and Broccoli for Matt, and fried rice to share, because a marriage is nothing without a shared carb.

And yes, when I do the full Dinner & Movie Night for this one, I will be making my homemade versions, which are SO good. Consider this your warning.

The Detention Trade

If you know, you know. Anna’s little trading operation with the detention monitor is one of my favorite small moments in the movie, so we recreated it with a stacked turkey and cheese sandwich and a bottle of blue Powerade. I wrapped the sandwich in foil like a proper contraband lunch, because details matter and I am nothing if not committed to the bit.

My First French Fry in 8 Years

This scene lives in my head rent free. Anna, in her mom’s body, getting the full lecture in the car about how fast food goes straight from your mouth to your thighs. And then Tess, in Anna’s body, absolutely destroying those fries with the immortal line: my first french fry in 8 years. As someone currently on a health journey, I have never related to a body swap comedy more. The crinkle fries went in a checkered paper cone with their own little tag, and they deserve it.

Hit Me Baby One More Time

The scene where Jake shows up at the Coleman house singing Hit Me Baby One More Time is peak early 2000s romance and I will not be taking questions. So naturally, this board needed Babybels. Hit me BABY one more time. Babybel. I need you to know I cackled at myself when this idea hit me, and Matt just nodded slowly like a man who has accepted his life.

Pink Slip Forever

We cannot have a Freaky Friday board without honoring Pink Slip, the greatest fictional garage band of our generation. Anna’s band got strawberry sour belts, coiled up like they are about to take the stage at the House of Blues, with a hand-cut Pink Slip tag in that perfect chaotic band-flyer font. This might be my favorite corner of the whole board.

Halibut? Ew.

One of the best throwaway gags in the movie. Tess is finalizing the wedding menu and wants halibut over salmon. Then the bodies swap, the caterer calls to confirm, and Anna, now running her mother’s entire life, cancels the whole meal in complete disgust. So the Swedish fish got their own tag: Halibut? Eww! That’s disgusting! What kind of caterer ARE you? Fish for the fish. I am very proud of this one.

The Wedding Cupcakes

Since the whole movie builds to Tess and Ryan’s wedding, dessert had to go bridal. I grabbed red velvet cupcakes from our local Kroger, because sometimes the assignment is assembly and not baking, and topped them with little Just Married hearts and a Wedding Cake tag. They look like they came straight off a sweetheart table and they took me four minutes.

The Fortune Cookies

And finally, the heart of the whole movie. OF COURSE we have fortune cookies. This is the item I was most excited about. I made a little printed label with the fortune from the movie and tucked it right into the board next to the cookies:

A journey soon begins. Its prize is reflected in another’s eyes. When what you see is what you lack, the selfless love will change you back.

I am not saying I got a little emotional printing out a fortune cookie quote at 7am. I am just saying the printer took a while and I had time to reflect.

The Full Spread

Put it all together and this board is pure early 2000s chaos in the best possible way. We ate the entire thing while the movie played, and there is something genuinely magical about reaching for a fortune cookie at the exact moment the fortune cookie scene comes on.
