Friday the 13th Dinner and A Movie Night: Campfire Feasts and Killer Cheesecake

Does it really get more Halloween than Friday the 13th? I mean, Jason Voorhees practically invented the slasher movie. It’s that perfect mix of campy chaos, summer nostalgia, and “don’t go in the woods” energy that makes it the ultimate horror movie night pick.
For this week’s Dinner and a Movie, I wanted to channel the eerie vibes of Camp Crystal Lake…minus the whole machete situation, and turn it into a cozy, yet slightly creepy, spooky dinner party. You can grab this entire themed menu (plus eleven more horror-inspired feasts) in my Bloody Good Dinners cookbook, your one-stop shop for horror movie night menus, Halloween dinner ideas, and the most delightfully bloody desserts imaginable.

Welcome to Camp Crystal Lake
The inspiration for this night was simple: I wanted it to feel like a romantic weekend camping trip that took a terrifying turn. Think: the comforting smell of chili by the fire, steaks sizzling on the grill, and something sweet waiting in the cabin kitchen… if you make it that far.
Each dish plays into that “counselors at camp” vibe, but with a spooky twist, perfect for your next Halloween feast or scary movie night with friends.
The Appetizer: Campfire Chili Skillets
Let’s start around the fire.
These mini cast iron skillets were filled with rich, smoky chili, topped with the cutest edible “campfire” made from pretzel sticks, a cracker base, and cheese flames. It’s equal parts adorable and eerie, like something you’d cook at summer camp before the screams start.
I love serving these as creepy appetizers because they’re self-contained, easy to make ahead, and set the tone for the night. They also look incredible on a spooky tablescape, especially when paired with flickering candles and autumn leaves.

The Main Event: Crystal Lake Counselor’s Final Feast
If we’re going out, we’re going out in style.
For the main course, we grilled up campfire strip steaks, perfectly charred, juicy, and seasoned like a night out in the woods. We served them alongside loaded baked potatoes (because comfort food is a must before facing Jason) and colorful veggie skewers straight from the grill.
This combination makes for the ultimate Halloween party dinner, warm, hearty, and rustic, but still elevated enough for a Friday the 13th Dinner and a Movie. You can even pre-prep everything earlier in the day so you’re not stuck in the kitchen while the suspense builds on screen.

Dessert: Cheesecake at Camp Crystal Lake
still not afraid of the dark?

If Camp Crystal Lake didn’t scare you off, I’ve got even more horror-inspired dinners that are equal parts creepy and crave-worthy. These chilling movie nights are perfect for slasher fans and thrill seekers:
👻 I Know What You Did Last Summer Dinner & a Movie – summer vibes, seaside dishes, and hauntingly delicious drinks
🧩 Saw Dinner & a Movie – layered meals with traps, tricks, and twisted sweets
👶 Child’s Play Dinner & a Movie – a creepy kids’ toy, killer cupcakes, and blood-red cocktails
Every great horror movie needs a shocking finale, and this dessert delivered a killer ending.
This Jason-inspired cheesecake might look a little menacing, but trust me – it’s a total crowd-pleaser. I decorated the top with chocolate chips arranged like Jason’s iconic hockey mask and finished it with a drizzle of red berry sauce for that perfect “slasher” touch.
It’s one of those Halloween recipes for adults that’s equal parts creepy and delicious – and so much fun to serve right before the movie starts.

The Drink: Slasher S’mores
We couldn’t call it a spooky movie night menu without a themed cocktail, and this one might just be my favorite yet.
Meet the Slasher S’mores, a bloody twist on a cozy campfire drink. It’s a rich, chocolatey cocktail served in a rim-drizzled glass with a graham cracker and a little white chocolate Jason mask on top (because details matter!).
Whether you make it boozy or not, it’s guaranteed to steal the show – and possibly your soul.

Behind the Scenes of this Friday the 13th Dinner and a Movie
This dinner was so good….like, “why don’t we do this every Friday the 13th?” good. Everything about it, from the chili flames to the bloody cheesecake, made it one of our favorite horror-themed meals yet.
We watched the movie with our cozy halloween decor and lights — and every movie is amplified to the 10s with our awesome Philips Hue Light setup, which added the perfect spooky atmosphere. The flickering firelight, the red “blood” drizzles, and the camp-style setup made it feel like we were right at Camp Crystal Lake (but with way better food).
If you’re planning your own spooky dinner party or looking for Halloween entertaining ideas, this one’s a must-try.
