The Goonies Snack Board That Would Make Chunk Do the Truffle Shuffle

The Goonies is one of those movies that just sticks with you. I saw it for the first time while visiting one of my mom’s best friends, and my age is about to show big time here, because we watched it on LaserDisc. If you have never heard of LaserDisc, picture a DVD the size of a vinyl record. It lived in that weird little gap between the VHS and the DVD player and it never really took off, but if your family had one back then, you were elite. I remember being just as fascinated by the giant shiny disc as I was by the movie. Almost.

Forty years later, that movie still holds up. So when Matt and I sat down for this one, I knew the board had to match the energy. Fair warning before we go any further, this board is almost entirely junk food. That is not an accident. This is a movie about a bunch of kids fueled by candy, pizza, and pure adrenaline. If you came here looking for diet food, the door is behind you. No judgment. Okay, a little judgment.

This board pairs perfectly with our full Goonies Dinner & Movie Night, which is a whole chapter in our Rewind & Dine cookbook. Grab it here 👉 Rewind & Dine but stick around, because this board has a custom wine label with a backstory.

Everything on the Goonies Snack Board

Here is the full treasure map:

One Eyed Willie’s Rich Stuff, A Good Fettucini, 1981, Domino’s Pizza, That’s What I Said, Boobie Traps Wings, Pirate’s Booty, TNT Red Vines, Ruth! Ruth! Ruth! Baby Ruths, Truffle Shuffle Truffles, X Marks the Spot Chips and Ranch, Pepsi, I Smell Ice Cream – Rocky Road

One Eyed Willie’s Rich Stuff

Every Goonies board has to start with the treasure. I piled up chocolate gold coins, Hershey’s Gold nuggets, ring pops, and Gushers, because hey man, they totally look like jewels. Then I took golden Oreos and brushed them with gold luster dust, and honestly they came out looking like actual doubloons. This little corner of the board glittered like the bottom of a wishing well, and I am not ashamed to say I ate most of the evidence.

A Good Fettucini, 1981

Now for my proudest moment. When I posted our Goonies dinner, the number one comment was that we were missing the Fettucini, 1981. You people were right and I have not known peace since. If you need a refresher, this is from the scene at the Fratellis’ restaurant, where Mouth struts in and orders like he is dining at a five star Italian bistro instead of a sketchy roadside hideout, finishing his order with a bottle of fettuccine, 1981. It is one of the best throwaway jokes in the whole movie.

So this time I made a custom wine label. A Good Fettucini, 1981, bottled by Astoria Winery, naturally. Redemption arc complete. The comment section can rest now.

Domino’s Pizza and Booby Trap Wings

You cannot do a Goonies board without Domino’s. It is right there in the movie when Chunk’s mom shows up with his favorite. But this one got me a little sentimental. When Matt and I first started dating, and honestly for the first five years of our relationship, he worked the late shift. So our version of hanging out started around 9 pm when he got home and settled in. A couple of beers, an order of Domino’s, and whatever was on TV. That was the whole date and it was perfect. We have not ordered it in years, and I am happy to report it absolutely still hits.

I also grabbed some wings, which were shockingly good for fast pizza food. I tagged them “That’s What I Said, Boobie Traps,” in honor of Data confidently announcing booty traps, getting corrected, and insisting that is exactly what he said. And yes, I put Pirate’s Booty on this board and completely missed my chance to label it Booty Traps. I will be thinking about that missed layup for the rest of my life. But oh well.

TNT Red Vines and Pirate’s Booty

Red Vines got bundled up with little TNT wrappers, because no Goonies adventure is complete without something exploding. These took about two minutes to make and they might be my favorite visual on the whole board. The Pirate’s Booty filled in the corner next to them, fluffy, salty, and tragically mislabeled, as previously discussed.

Ruth! Ruth! Ruth! Baby Ruth

The Baby Ruths got a tag featuring Sloth himself, mid holler. This is one of those movie moments that lives rent free in an entire generation’s brain. One candy bar, one unlikely friendship, one of the most quoted lines of the eighties. The fun size bars stacked up perfectly next to the wine, and every time I walked past the board I heard the line in my head. You are hearing it right now too. You’re welcome.

Truffle Shuffle Truffles

Obviously. If you are going to put chocolate truffles on a Goonies board, there is exactly one correct tag, and it is Chunk lifting his shirt on the fence. It is the price of admission. It is the law. The truffles themselves were rich, fudgy little squares that disappeared embarrassingly fast, and I regret nothing.

X Marks the Spot Chips and Ranch

Kettle Salt and Pepper Ruffled potato chips with a bowl of ranch, and here is my favorite tiny detail on the whole board. Despite my entire life revolving around elaborate themed foods – Matt and I try really hard to eat mostly healthy on nights that we aren’t having a movie night – and I try not to keep chips in the house – but these were a TREAT. I completely understand why I don’t keep them in the house because these Kettle Salt and Pepper Chips are elite.

I laid two strips of cheddar across the ranch in an X, so the dip became its own little treasure map. X marks the spot, always. I tagged the chips with Mikey being told no more potato chips, which felt appropriate, because there was zero chance of anyone stopping at a reasonable amount of these.

Pepsi and a Little Rocky Road

A bottle of Pepsi rounded out the drinks, one for me, wine for whoever claims the Fettucini. And we finished the whole thing with a scoop of Rocky Road, tagged I Smell Ice Cream. If you know the freezer scene, you know. Chunk’s commitment to that ice cream under truly horrifying circumstances is the kind of dedication I aspire to. And here is the deep cut for my fellow detail people, I used Tillamook Rocky Road, which is made just down the Oregon coast from Astoria, where the movie is set. Regional accuracy matters, even in dessert form.

The Full Spread

When it all came together in front of the TV, this board just made me happy. Treasure glittering on one side, pizza stacked on the other, Sloth yelling from a toothpick. Matt and I grazed our way through the entire movie and quoted approximately half of it out loud.
