Harry Potter Movie Night Snack Board: A Magical Hogwarts Feast
Confession time: I was never a big Harry Potter fan growing up.
Actually, that’s putting it mildly.
I never read the books. And until about six years ago, I had never even seen the movies.
I know. 😅
My husband was absolutely APPALLED when he discovered this and basically decided this was a situation that needed to be corrected immediately. So we did what any reasonable adults would do: we started at the very beginning and had a full Harry Potter marathon.
And somewhere along the way…I got it.
I finally understood why people love this world so much.
My First Harry Potter Marathon
Of all the movies, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is still my favorite.
There is just something about that first movie that feels SO magical.
Diagon Alley. Seeing Hogwarts for the first time. The Sorting Hat. The Great Hall. Floating candles. Chocolate Frogs. The Hogwarts Express.
It feels like you’re discovering this entire world right along with Harry.
Naturally, this is my husband’s LEAST favorite because he prefers the darker later movies. 😂
But I digress.
There is another reason that first Harry Potter marathon has always stuck with me.
The day before we watched the final movie, my husky, Harmony, unexpectedly passed away.
It was during the heart of COVID. She had suddenly started having problems with incontinence and paralysis in her back legs. I tried to get her into the emergency vet, but at the time they were only allowing you to come in, check in, and wait in the car – and the wait was around six hours.
I made the decision to keep her home with me and make her as comfortable as I possibly could, and hope the wait would be shorter in the morning.
She passed away overnight.
She was the first pet I had ever actually been with when they died, and it was absolutely devastating.
The following evening, we finished our Harry Potter marathon with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.
Then came that scene.
Harry asks Sirius:
“Does it hurt?”
And I LOST IT.
Like…completely lost it.
So yeah. I came to Harry Potter about two decades late, but somehow these movies still managed to attach themselves to a very specific – and very emotional – chapter of my life.
And now here I am making Golden Snitches out of mac and cheese balls.
Life is weird. 😂

A Harry Potter Movie Night Snack Board
When I saw that Target was releasing an entire Harry Potter collection of treats, I KNEW I had to turn them into one ridiculous Harry Potter movie night board.
And when I say ridiculous, I mean that lovingly.
Because LOOK AT THIS THING.

I’ve actually done a full Harry Potter Dinner and a Movie before, and it is still one of my favorite movie nights I’ve ever created. That version was much more focused on making everything from scratch.
You can find my full Harry Potter Dinner and a Movie night here:
Harry Potter Dinner and a Movie Night
And all of the recipes from that dinner are included in my Epic Eats Dinner and a Movie Cookbook:
For this board, though, I wanted something different.
This was about combining easy foods, fun store-bought finds and a few ridiculously cute DIY ideas into one giant Hogwarts-worthy spread.
Because you do NOT have to spend two days cooking to make a magical movie night.
Welcome to Honeydukes
Obviously, we had to start with Honeydukes.
And I may have gotten a little carried away.
Okay.
A LOT carried away. 😂

I filled an entire section of the board with Harry Potter treats, including:
- Chocolate Frogs
- Honeydukes Candy Floss
- Cockroach Clusters
- Drooble’s Best Blowing Gum
- Exploding Bon Bons
- Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans
- Hogwarts house lollipops
- Chocolate character wands
I used lollipops representing Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin and let them stand up toward the back of the board to give the display some height.
Then I added chocolate wands – including Hermione’s wand and the Elder Wand – because apparently regular chocolate wasn’t magical enough.

I linked the Harry Potter treats and supplies I used in my ShopMy collection at the bottom of this post!
The Sorting Hat Candy Centerpiece
This might be one of my favorite little details on the entire board.
I added four small bowls of candy representing the four Hogwarts houses and placed a chocolate Sorting Hat right in the middle.

The Sorting Hat is actually designed to be dropped into hot chocolate. Once it melts, it reveals your Hogwarts house color!
Which is adorable.
But there was absolutely NO WAY I was melting mine before I photographed this board. 😂
It made the perfect centerpiece.
You could absolutely buy a few extras and let everyone at your movie night discover their house with a cup of hot chocolate.
A Mini Welcome to Hogwarts Feast
On the other side of the board, I wanted to bring in a little bit of that classic Hogwarts feast feeling.
So I kept it simple with:
Roasted chicken legs, corn on the cob and creamy mashed potatoes.

And you do NOT need complicated recipes for any of them.
Easy Roasted Chicken Legs
For about 8 chicken drumsticks, you’ll need:
- 8 chicken drumsticks
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon dried thyme
Preheat your oven to 425°F.
Pat the chicken dry, toss it with the olive oil and seasonings, and arrange it on a baking sheet or roasting pan.
Bake for about 35–45 minutes, turning once, until the chicken is browned and reaches at least 165°F internally.
I like letting mine get a little extra golden because it makes the whole thing feel more like something that just came out of the Hogwarts kitchens.
Easy Buttery Corn on the Cob
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
Add your corn and cook for about 4–6 minutes, or until tender.
Drain and brush generously with melted butter. Finish with a little salt.
That’s it.
Hogwarts does not need to know how easy it was.
Easy Creamy Mashed Potatoes
For a small batch:
- 2 pounds Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes
- 4 tablespoons butter
- ½ cup warm milk or heavy cream
- Salt and pepper to taste
Peel and chop the potatoes, then boil them in salted water until fork-tender, about 15–20 minutes.
Drain well, mash with the butter and slowly mix in the warm milk or cream until they’re as creamy as you like.
Season with salt and pepper.
OR…buy the premade mashed potatoes – I am an always from scratch kind of girl, but I recently picked up some Bob Evans Mashed Potatoes in a pinch and couldn’t believe how good they were!
Seriously.
This is a movie night, not your audition to become a Hogwarts house-elf. 😂
Heat them up, add a little extra butter on top and put them in a cute bowl.
Done.
Golden Snitch Mac and Cheese Bites
STOP.
Because these came out SO CUTE.

I grabbed frozen mac and cheese bites from Trader Joe’s and found little gold wings.
After cooking the mac and cheese bites, I put a wing on each side and ran a toothpick straight through the middle to hold everything together.
Instant Golden Snitches.
They might be one of the easiest themed foods I’ve ever made, and somehow they look like I put WAY more effort into them than I actually did.
Those are my favorite kinds of themed foods. 😂
Important: Remove the toothpicks and decorative wings before eating, especially if you’re serving these to kids.
Pumpkin Pasties & Treacle Treats
I also found branded Pumpkin Pasties and Treacle Treats, which were basically made for this board.

And I have to admit…
For store-bought pastries?
These were GOOD.
They were also a nice break from all of the candy. They’re still sweet, but not Bertie Bott’s beans followed by cotton candy followed by a Chocolate Frog sweet.
Balance. 😂
They’re linked in my ShopMy collection below too.
Golden Snitch Pillsbury Cookies
If you’ve been following my Halloween snack board series, you already know there was approximately a zero percent chance I was walking past themed Pillsbury cookies without buying them.
I LOVE THESE THINGS.
They’re easy.
They’re cute.
They’re nostalgic.
And somehow they taste better than regular sugar cookies. I don’t make the rules.
The Golden Snitch cookies absolutely belonged here.
DIY Harry Potter Potions
Of course Hogwarts needed potions!

I reused a few potion-style bottles I’ve collected from previous boards and filled them with different colored juices.
Then came the secret weapon:
Edible glitter.
Add a tiny amount of edible glitter to your juice and give the bottle a swirl.
MAGIC.
Seriously, this is one of the easiest tricks for themed drinks. The glitter swirls through the liquid and makes an ordinary juice look like an actual potion.
Try different colors and let everyone choose their potion.
Bonus points if you give them ridiculous names.
Just make sure you’re using glitter specifically labeled as edible, not merely “non-toxic” craft glitter.
And Obviously…BUTTERBEER
You cannot have a Harry Potter movie night without Butterbeer.
I think that’s actually Hogwarts law.
Luckily, you can make an incredibly easy version at home.
Easy Butterbeer Recipe
Makes about 4 servings
You’ll need:
- 4 cups chilled cream soda
- ¼ cup butterscotch syrup
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons butterscotch syrup for the topping
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
First, make the topping.
Beat the heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, vanilla and 2 tablespoons of butterscotch syrup until soft peaks form.
In a pitcher, gently stir the cream soda with ¼ cup butterscotch syrup.
Pour into glasses and spoon that fluffy butterscotch whipped cream right over the top.
Drizzle with a little extra butterscotch if you’re feeling fancy.
And there you have it.
Butterbeer without having to travel to Hogsmeade.
Although, given the choice, I’m still choosing Hogsmeade.
How to Build Your Own Harry Potter Snack Board
The best thing about a board like this is that you can make it as elaborate—or as easy—as you want.
You definitely don’t need every single thing I used.
Start with a few larger savory foods, add two or three themed sweets, make one really fun DIY item like the Golden Snitches, and fill the remaining spaces with candy.
Then add height wherever you can.
Boxes, lollipops, potion bottles and standing packages help make a board like this look HUGE without requiring you to fill every inch with food.

And remember: store-bought counts.
I love cooking from scratch. I’ve built entire Dinner and a Movie menus around homemade recipes.
But sometimes the fun is hunting down all the themed goodies and turning them into something completely over-the-top.
Both versions can create an amazing movie night.
The Finished Harry Potter Movie Night Board
And this was the final result!

Honestly?
This might be one of my favorite snack boards I’ve made.
There is SO MUCH to look at.
You’ve got Honeydukes. The Hogwarts feast. Potions. Butterbeer. Golden Snitches. Chocolate Frogs. The Sorting Hat.
It feels less like a snack board and more like someone accidentally dumped half of Diagon Alley onto my table.
Which is exactly what I wanted.

And considering I somehow made it through the first couple decades of my life without ever watching Harry Potter…
I think I’ve made up for lost time. ⚡️
Shop My Harry Potter Movie Night
I put the Harry Potter treats, decorations and other items I used for this board into one collection so you don’t have to hunt everything down individually.
Some items are seasonal or limited-edition, so availability may change.
And if you’d rather go ALL IN and make a full Harry Potter dinner from scratch, don’t forget to check out my original Harry Potter Dinner and a Movie night and the recipes inside Epic Eats Dinner and a Movie.
Now the only question is…
Which Harry Potter movie are we watching first?
I’m still picking Sorcerer’s Stone.
My husband can complain about it being too lighthearted from the other side of the Great Hall. 😂⚡️
