Home Alone 2 Dinner and a Movie Night

There are some movies that live in your head rent free forever, and for me, Home Alone 2 has always been one of them. Maybe it is because I was a show choir girl who could SANG, or maybe it is because my teenage heart fell in love with New York City the moment my grandparents took me there in eighth grade. I remember standing in the middle of Manhattan and thinking, this is it, this is where I belong. My entire dream through high school was to move to New York and be on Broadway. So when Home Alone 2 dropped Kevin straight into the middle of my dream city, the movie instantly beat out the first one for me. Sorry Home Alone, but your sequel wins in my eyes every single time.
So naturally, when it came time to create our Home Alone 2 Dinner and a Movie night, I wanted it to feel like stepping right into the Plaza Hotel suite with Kevin. A little bougie, a little chaotic, and a whole lot of fun. This one ended up being one of my favorite movie nights we have ever done.

Why We Chose Home Alone 2
Home Alone 2 hits differently. Between Kevin living his absolute best life in the Plaza, ordering room service as a twelve year old, and cruising through New York in a limo with a cheese pizza in hand, it is peak Christmas movie magic.
It also captures that feeling so many of us had growing up. The fantasy of being completely unsupervised in the coolest city on earth, with a credit card, a hotel room, and no bedtime. It is silly, it is nostalgic, and it brings out the kid in all of us.
This Week’s Dinner Theme
For this movie night, I wanted to create something that felt very fun and approachable, while still telling the story of the film. Instead of doing a traditional appetizer, we went with a full In Room Refreshments Box, inspired by the Plaza Hotel minibar that Kevin raids in the movie. Then we moved into a classic New York cheese pizza for the entree because what the heck kind of Home Alone Movie night would it be without a Lovely Cheese Pizza, followed by a giant Plaza Ice Cream Sundae for dessert.
Every part of this night felt like stepping right into the movie.
The In Room Refreshments Box
This might be one of my favorite props I have ever made, and it is so simple. I printed the Plaza Hotel logo on a sticker sheet and placed it on the bottom half of an Amazon box. Instantly, it became the cutest little in room refreshment tray, Plaza Hotel style.
Inside, I added:
- Ruffles
- Jack Links beef jerky
- Two cans of Pringles
- Nerd gummy clusters
- Kit Kat
- Reese’s
- A jar of assorted jelly beans just like Kevin had
- And homemade giant chocolate chip cookies wrapped in plastic, just like the ones he swiped from the minibar

These cookies were really the only thing I made from scratch, cookies are my specialty so i was really excited to make these giant bakery style cookies!! They came out so good! Grab the full recipe here. 👇
Jump to RecipeI even made a custom label for the jelly bean jar, because of course I did. And to finish the look, I created a Plaza Hotel room service menu using 1990s pricing. You can grab these printables below.
This little box ended up being such a fun and nostalgic moment that made the whole night feel like we were staying in the Plaza suite with Kevin.

The VIP Cola Service Drink
One of my favorite details in Home Alone 2 is that the franchise went from Pepsi in the first movie to Coca Cola in the second. So for the drink, I recreated Kevin’s iconic limo Coke moment.
I served cola in my favorite Christmas wine glasses and added green striped straws. Then I topped each straw with a tiny printable of the “Wet Bandits Escape” newspaper. It is the little things that make these nights feel special, and the straw toppers were such a funny, perfect touch.

The Main Course: New York Cheese Pizza
This part of the night brought me so much joy. Instead of making something complicated, we leaned into Kevin’s limo moment and created a full custom pizza box labeled Filthy Animal Pizza Co, complete with the New York skyline and the phrase “Keep the Change.”
This is honestly the most Home Alone coded thing I have ever made.
Inside the box, we placed a cheesy, golden brown DiGiorno pizza. And listen, do not come for me. We were short on time, and my husband used to love DiGiorno as a kid and when I saw that cheesy crust, it felt so perfectly Kevin. But here is the best part. This idea works no matter what type of pizza you choose.
You can use:
- Store bought frozen pizza
- Papa Murphy’s
- Your favorite local pizza spot
- Homemade dough
- A gluten friendly crust
- A fancy artisan pizza
- Literally anything
Because the star of the show is absolutely the custom pizza box. It ties the entire theme together and it makes even the simplest pizza feel like an experience. Kevin would absolutely approve. Here are links to the pizza box and printable sticker sheets I used) You can absolutely just print the label and tape it to a pizza box! Dessert: The Plaza Ice Cream Sundae
This has been a dream dessert of mine since the first time I saw this movie. Who did not fantasize about ordering a giant sundae from room service as a kid?
For this dessert, I recreated the full Plaza Sundae experience.
I used a stainless steel mixing bowl and placed it on a tray with three compartments. One for maraschino cherries, one for M&Ms, and one for sprinkles. Inside the bowl, I scooped half a gallon of vanilla ice cream and half a gallon of chocolate. I added whipped cream, drizzled chocolate sauce, and topped it with a cherry.
It was absolutely glorious. This is one of those desserts that stops the movie night in its tracks. Kids and adults will lose their minds over how ridiculous and fun it is.
And the best part? When we were done, I scooped the leftovers back into the original cartons and it created the most perfect chocolate vanilla swirl. Peak childhood magic.

Giant Bakery Inspired Chocolate Chip Cookies
Ingredients
- 1 cup softened butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup light brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tbsp vanilla
- 2½ cups bread flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1½ –2 cups chocolate chunks or chips
Instructions
- Cream butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth and fluffy.
- Add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla. Mix fully.
- Whisk together bread flour, baking soda, salt, and cornstarch.
- Add dry ingredients to wet and mix until just combined.
- Fold in the chocolate chips or chunks.
- Scoop huge dough balls (¼–⅓ cup each) for 4-inch cookies.
- Chill dough for 35–45 minutes — just enough to firm but not fully hard.
- Bake at 350°F for 11–14 minutes, until edges are lightly golden and the middle looks just slightly underbaked.
- Let cookies set on the baking sheet for 10 minutes before moving.
Notes
- Bread flour gives them that chewy center + crispy edge.
- One egg plus one yolk gives them richer flavor and that glossy bakery-style pull-apart.
- The cornstarch keeps them soft while still holding structure.
- Perfect for wrapping in cellophane like Kevin’s Plaza minibar cookies.
- If your cookies spread a little wonky in the oven, do not panic. While they’re still hot, gently scoot a large round cookie cutter, bowl, or even the rim of a wide cup around the edges in a circular motion. It instantly reshapes them into perfect bakery-style circles.
