How the Grinch Stole Christmas Dinner and a Movie Night

There’s no Christmas season complete without a little green grump trying to ruin it for everyone. How the Grinch Stole Christmas is one of those movies I have to watch every single year, and yes, I mean all the versions. The original animated classic, the newer cartoon, and of course, the Jim Carrey masterpiece that gave us both emotional damage and the gift of Nsync on the soundtrack – and naturally, it deserves the How the Grinch Stole Christmas Dinner and a Movie treatment!

This movie night is always one of my favorites to bring to life because it captures that perfect mix of chaos, heart, and holiday cheer. In my Christmas Dinner and a Movie Cookbook, you’ll find the original version of this menu, a full-on Whoville feast with traditional Roast Beast, homemade Who Hash, and a festive Grinch Trifle. But this year, I wanted to do something a little more approachable.

Because let’s be honest, sometimes you want the magic of a themed dinner without spending six hours in the kitchen. So this year’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas Dinner and a Movie menu is a quick, cozy, and totally achievable spread that still feels like it came straight out of Whoville.

The Menu

Drink: You’re a Mean One
We kicked things off with this Grinch-green cocktail (and mocktail) that’s the definition of merry mischief. Bright, icy, and the perfect shade of villainous green, it’s rimmed with coconut “snow” and topped with a strawberry heart, because even the Grinch’s heart grew three sizes that day. It’s sweet, tart, and guaranteed to make your heart grow too (especially if you add a splash of vodka).

Appetizer: The Last of the Who Hash
For our Who Hash, I wanted something that felt warm, indulgent, and comforting. So I went with what I like to call “Irish Nachos,” aka golden tater tots smothered in melted cheddar cheese, crispy bacon bits, and green onions.

If you’re feeding a crowd, serve it straight out of the oven in a big dish with a “Who Hash” label, because we all know presentation is half the fun.

Main Course: Roast Beast Sandwiches
Okay, this one might be my new favorite. Instead of tackling a full roast, I picked up some amazing beef brisket from one of my favorite local restaurants and turned it into the ultimate Roast Beast Sandwich.

We’re talking tender, smoky brisket piled high on toasted brioche buns, topped with crunchy homemade slaw, tangy pickles, and a drizzle of homemade BBQ sauce.

Short on time? Grab store-bought slaw, pickles, and sauce…no judgment here. The whole point is to make it easy, fun, and festive. This meal isn’t about perfection, it’s about laughing, eating, and quoting Jim Carrey saying, “Am I just eating because I’m bored?”

Feeling a Little Grinchy?

Maybe a sleigh ride to the North Pole will fix that.

If your heart still needs a little help growing three sizes, I’ve got just the thing:
Our Santa Clause Dinner & a Movie Night is like curling up in a cup of hot cocoa. We’re talking cocoa bombs, North Pole snacks, and enough cozy vibes to make even Bernard the Elf crack a smile.

So when you’re ready to trade in Mount Crumpit for the North Pole, I’ve got your sleigh waiting.

Dessert: Who Pudding Trifles & Grinchmas Cookies

For dessert, I kept it sweet and simple with our Who Pudding Trifles. They’re made with layers of instant vanilla pudding and strawberry cake, topped with whipped cream and Christmas sprinkles. I served them in mason jars for that perfect Pinterest moment, they look like a Who’s dream dessert straight out of Mt. Crumpit.

And then… my heart grew three sizes when I made the cutest Grinch cookies ever. These bright green cookie sandwiches are filled with red frosting and shaped like hearts, symbolizing that iconic transformation moment.

I used this sugar cookie base recipe from The Epicurean Mouse (link here), and it’s truly foolproof, perfect for baking with kids or just pretending you’re one while watching Christmas movies.

Why This Movie Night Works

This is the perfect Christmas dinner and movie night idea when you want cozy, fun, and full of personality without a ton of prep. Everything on this menu can be made in under an hour (or assembled even faster if you go semi-homemade), leaving you more time to curl up and watch the Grinch’s redemption arc unfold.

It’s also a great one to do with family or friends because the food is shareable, nostalgic, and has just the right amount of whimsy. Throw on your fuzzy green socks, pour yourself a You’re a Mean One cocktail, and quote along with Cindy Lou Who like the Christmas queen you are.
