A Prehistoric Feast Worth Roaring About

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been obsessed with dinosaurs. Like, “dragging my aunt to dig for bones in the dirt” obsessed – so Jurassic Park Dinner and a Movie was a no brainer.

Growing up, my Aunt Jaci, certified history lover and professional coolest human ever, used to take us on actual archaeological digs. We’re talking fossil hunts, rock hammer and all. She even brought us to the Natural History Museum in Los Angeles, where I’d lose hours in the dinosaur wing, wide-eyed and imagining life millions of years ago.

So when Jurassic Park hit theaters? Game over. Instant obsession. The groundbreaking visuals. The music. The drama. The T-Rex scene that changed cinema forever. It became my favorite movie, and it still holds the title to this day.

So naturally, when it came time to create a Jurassic Park–themed dinner for our weekly Dinner & a Movie Night, I went big. Like “T-Rex stomping through the kitchen” big.

And honestly? It might be my favorite meal I’ve ever made. Every dish was dramatic, over-the-top, and packed with prehistoric flair, exactly what you’d expect from a Jurassic-sized celebration.

Setting the Scene

This dinner wasn’t just a meal. It was a cinematic event. From cocktails to dessert, every dish was a nod to Isla Nublar—full of flavor, storytelling, and just the right amount of chaos.

We didn’t go overboard with themed decorations because we didn’t have to. The food was the showstopper. With a little creative plating, clever names, and a lot of flavor, we brought Jurassic Park to life right on our plates.

🦖 Velociraptor Venom Margarita

We kicked things off with a bold, herbaceous twist on a classic margarita.
Garnished with dill, mint, and a tiny toy raptor peeking out of the glass, this drink was as wild as the island itself. Refreshing, flavorful, and just dangerous enough to make you feel like you were sipping it under a palm tree while dodging predators.

🍸 Lex’s Green Jello Shots

You know we couldn’t do a Jurassic Park night without a nod to that iconic Jello scene.
These neon green jello shots were fun, nostalgic, and the perfect playful moment to break up the fancy vibes.

👁️ Raptor’s Glare Deviled Eggs

These were almost too cool to eat. Almost.
I tinted the filling with fresh dill for a greenish hue, then topped them with a slice of black olive to mimic a dinosaur eye. Simple, spooky, and so, so tasty.

🪨 Fossilized Dinosaur Egg Nests (My Pride and Joy)

This is the dish I’m most proud of — maybe ever.
I nestled roasted baby potatoes into crispy phyllo “nests,” creating a prehistoric fossil vibe that was just… magical. They looked like something you’d uncover on a dig, but tasted like comfort food heaven.
Carbs on carbs? Say less.

🥩 T-Rex Tomahawk Steak

The main event.
This massive, bone-in tomahawk steak was grilled to perfection and served with roasted garlic herb butter and chimichurri. It was rich, primal, and so satisfying, basically what I imagine a T-Rex would order at a 5-star steakhouse.

🥗 Herbivore’s Feast Salad

Because even in a world of carnivores, balance is key.
This fresh, colorful salad was packed with greens, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, and edible flowers for a pop of prehistoric color. A homemade herb vinaigrette tied it all together.

🍰 Ancient Relics Excavation Cake

The grand finale. The mic drop.
Layers of ultra-moist homemade Devil’s Food chocolate cake, stuffed with caramel, fudge, and whipped cream.
Topped with crushed Butterfingers and white chocolate dino bones to look like an excavation site.
It was part Better Than You Know What cake, part Jurassic dig, and 100% indulgent.

This was my second attempt, by the way. I made the whole cake twice because I was determined to get the texture and design just right. Worth. Every. Bite.
Matt and I were sneaking forkfuls straight from the fridge for days after.

The Process: Bringing Jurassic Park to Life

This one took time. Planning the dishes. Making sure each one visually matched the theme. Testing that cake—twice. But that’s what I love about these nights.

Every detail told a story.
Every bite brought the movie to life.
And the reaction? Worth every ounce of effort.

Especially those dino nests. I don’t say this lightly, but I don’t think I’ve ever been more proud of a dish. They’re rustic, refined, and so on theme. I haven’t seen anything like them before. And flavor-wise? Total home run.
