A Pixar-inspired snack board with pasta, Italian sweets, and coastal color
Matt and I were out checking out some local stores in our hometown when we stumbled upon My Daddy’s Italian Bakery, and the moment we stepped inside, I knew exactly what movie needed to happen next.
Luca.
Between the cannoli, éclairs, Italian wedding cookies, and classic bakery treats, the inspiration was immediate. Luca is colorful, joyful, and deeply tied to food, especially pasta. Instead of choosing between a dinner or a board, I decided to do both. A full scratch-made dinner would live on its own page, and this snack board would stand alone as an easy, elevated entry point into the movie.

Starting with the Italian Bakery Treats
I built this board from the sweets outward. The bakery haul included cannoli, éclairs, Italian wedding cookies, and a few other small Italian desserts that felt nostalgic and classic.
Rather than spreading them out, I grouped everything together on a single plate and labeled it Post-Race Treats, tying the desserts back to the Portorosso Cup theme in a simple way. This immediately gave the board structure and helped establish a clear visual story.
The Centerpiece: Portorosso Cup Practice Pasta Flight
The centerpiece of this board is a flight of pasta inspired by the training scenes in Luca, where the kids fuel up with every type of pasta imaginable while preparing for the triathlon.
I made three simple pastas:
- Pesto linguine
- Garlic parmesan angel hair
- Shells with garlic marinara
I kept things super simple for the pastas themselves – I used butter, garlic and parm for the angel hair, Rao’s Garlic Marinara for the shells and Barilla Pesto for the Linguini – as a playful nod to the pasta in the movie. To make them feel special and a little unexpected, I styled each pasta in tall dessert glasses. The height worked beautifully on the board, and the glass bowls allowed the colors and textures of the pasta to really stand out.
The trio was labeled Portorosso Cup Practice, which tied the concept together without needing any extra explanation.
Adding Color and Coastal Details
Once the pasta was in place, the rest of the board focused on color and texture inspired by the movie.
I added:
- San Pellegrino lemon sparkling water for a bright, Italian touch
- Teal and blue sour ropes styled in a glass at the back of the board, chosen for their color and subtle seaweed feel
For the candy elements, I included:
- Gummy sharks
- Light blue Nerds clusters, which I use often on boards for both color and crunch – and let’s be real, they just taste so damn good!
- A mermaid lollipop tucked into the candy cup for height
To finish the coastal theme, I added a small bowl of crushed graham crackers and topped it with gummy mermaid shells. Labeled Sea Treasures, this detail brought the entire board together visually and helped balance the savory elements.
