Nightmare Before Christmas Snack Board

A Spooky Christmas Fever Dream You Can Actually Eat
Some snack boards are simply meant to shine. I knew this Nightmare Before Christmas board was going to slay the moment I started planning it. This movie is a cult classic for a reason. It feels like childhood nostalgia wrapped in moody lighting and a Danny Elfman soundtrack. It is Halloween slipping into a Santa suit. It is everything I love about the holidays in one gloriously strange package.
My full Nightmare Before Christmas Dinner and a Movie Night has been one of my most viral meals of all time. So the pressure was on when I decided to finally give this world a snack board version. The visuals. The characters. The colors. The Tim Burton vibes. Every element of this movie is so iconic that you can turn almost anything into a treat and people will instantly recognize it.

This board does exactly that. It feels like something Jack Skellington would proudly present to the citizens of Halloween Town while insisting it is very Christmas appropriate. It is fun, it is festive, and it is a total showstopper for any Christmas movie night.

What’s On The Nightmare Before Christmas Snack Board
Oogie Boogie Pudding Cups
Pistachio pudding or vanilla pudding with lime green food coloring. Topped with Oreo crumbs for “dirt” and loaded with gummy worms. I used clear disposable cups and drew Oogie’s face right onto the plastic. They are bright, creepy and hilarious in the best way.

Jack Skellington Uncrustables
The easiest win of the night. Just take store-bought round sandwiches and decorate the tops with black cookie icing. Instant Jack Skellington faces. Kids lose their minds over these.

Sally Dress Crispy Treats
I used pre-packaged Rice Krispie treats to keep this quick and easy. Melted pink, teal and yellow chocolate get spooned on like patchwork pieces, then use black writing icing to add Sally’s stitches. They look so vibrant on the board and are one of the first things people reach for.

Zero’s Puppy Chow
My signature movie night favorite. This is classic muddy buddies but I add holiday M&M’s and a cutout of Zero on top. The white powdered sugar look makes it extra perfect for Christmas.
Moon Cookies
I used Oreos and black cookie icing to draw the iconic spiral hill silhouette. They are simple but instantly recognizable.

Sally’s Hair
Red licorice pulled apart into strips. The simplest themed side ever.
Oogie Boogie’s Insides
Just a small bowl of gummy worms. The name sells it. Everyone reaches for these because they need to see what “insides” taste like.
Christmas Tree Brownies
Little Debbie Christmas trees for an extra festive pop. They fill the board beautifully and tie the entire theme into the holiday season.
Popcorn
The hero filler ingredient for all snack boards. Light, fluffy, neutral and perfect for tucking all the themed treats into place.

Mini Recipes
Sally’s Patchwork Crispy Treats
Makes 6 to 12 treats depending on size
Ingredients
For store-bought option
• 6 to 12 prepackaged Rice Krispie treats
For homemade option
• 3 tablespoons butter
• 1 bag (10 ounces) mini marshmallows
• 6 cups crispy rice cereal
• Pinch of salt
• Nonstick spray
Decoration
• Pink melting chocolate
• Yellow melting chocolate
• Teal melting chocolate
• Black writing icing
Instructions
- If using prepackaged treats, unwrap them and set them on a parchment-lined tray.
- If making homemade treats, melt the butter in a large pot. Add the marshmallows and stir until fully melted. Remove from heat and stir in a pinch of salt and the cereal until coated.
- Press the mixture into a greased 9 by 13 inch pan. Let cool for 30 minutes, then slice into rectangles.
- Melt each chocolate color in separate bowls.
- Use a spoon to add pink, teal and yellow chocolate patches onto each treat. The less perfect they look, the more authentic it feels to Sally’s dress.
- Once the chocolate begins to set, pipe black icing stitches across each seam.
- Allow everything to fully harden before adding to your board.
Zero’s Puppy Chow
Makes about 4 cups
Ingredients
4 cups Chex cereal
1 cup chocolate chips
1 cup powdered sugar
1 tablespoon butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
Holiday M&M’s
Instructions
- Melt chocolate chips with butter until smooth. Stir in vanilla.
- Pour over Chex cereal and mix until coated.
- Add powdered sugar and shake until everything is covered.
- Stir in holiday M&M’s.
- Serve with a little Zero cutout on top for the full effect.
