Recreating All the Food from The Princess and the Frog
If Tiana taught us anything, it’s that dreams are made of hard work, determination, and, of course, good food. From her famous gumbo to the swamp gumbo she makes with Naveen, The Princess and the Frog is packed with iconic dishes that make you wish you could step right into New Orleans and take a bite. So, that’s exactly what I did – I recreated every single food moment from the movie and brought Tiana’s world to life, one dish at a time!
Crafting a Disney-Inspired New Orleans Feast
This movie has a special place in my heart, especially as a lover of Disney movie-inspired meals and New Orleans cuisine recipes. – not just because of its stunning animation and incredible jazz-filled soundtrack, but because it fully embraces the soul of New Orleans cuisine. After visiting New Orleans for my 40th birthday and tasting my way through the city, I knew I had to recreate these dishes at home. So, I went all out – from custom wine bottles to Tiana’s Man-Catching Beignets, no detail was left behind!
The Ultimate Princess and the Frog Dinner Menu – Disney-Themed Dinner Ideas
This wasn’t just a dinner – it was an immersive experience. I carefully recreated every meal shown in the film, plating each one to match the movie’s scenes and served them while they were shown on the screen! Here’s what made it onto the menu:
Almost There Wine – Tiana’s Place Private Label
Tiana’s dream restaurant comes to life in the Almost There animation sequence, inspiring a magical Disney-themed dinner idea that captures the heart of New Orleans cuisine., featuring stunning golden hues and elegant dishes. My current obsession is creating fun wine bottles in Canva, so I decided to give this movie the gorgeous wine treatment, with not one but TWO custom bottles. This first is inspired by Tiana’s concept art for “Tiana’s Place.” The bottle? A Cabernet Sauvignon, the perfect pairing for a rich New Orleans feast.
Tiana’s Famous Gumbo
You can’t have a Princess and the Frog dinner without Tiana’s famous gumbo recipe—one of the most iconic dishes in Disney culinary recreations!! I cooked up a pot of deep, flavorful, rich gumbo, just like Tiana would have made. This dish is the heart of the movie, representing family, tradition, and love for good food.
Morning Rush at Duke’s Diner
In one of the opening scenes, we see Tiana working the breakfast rush, serving a short stack of pancakes, eggs, bacon, and a baby is shown going to town on a whole pie! I recreated this with a mini breakfast platter, plated on a tray just like Tiana would serve it at Duke’s.
Mama Odie’s Magical Potion – A Spicy Mango Margarita
Mama Odie’s magical gumbo pot glows with golden light, so I recreated the effect in cocktail form. This spicy mango margarita was served in a glass with dry ice for a bubbling effect and a glowing golden coaster to mimic the enchanted look of her gumbo pot.
Almost There Dessert Platter
When Tiana is dreaming of her restaurant, she’s seen piping whipped cream onto a selection of gorgeous desserts. To recreate this, I served a decadent dessert platter featuring:
- Two cheesecakes
- Crème brûlée (made from scratch!)
- Mini pie (also homemade!)
- Two cakes (one from a local bakery, plus a Nothing Bundt Cake!)
Because let’s be honest, sometimes you gotta cheat a little – Tiana might make everything from scratch, but I took a shortcut or two. 😉
Swamp Gumbo – “You’re Gonna Mince the Mushrooms”
In the movie, Tiana makes a rustic gumbo in a hollowed-out pumpkin, teaching Naveen how to mince mushrooms. I took this concept and made a hearty vegetable and mushroom gumbo, served in a ceramic pumpkin bowl to bring a little magic from the movie in.
“I Minced” Fruit Salad – Naveen’s Special Platter
One of the most endearing moments in the film is when Naveen proudly presents Tiana with a fruit platter, showing off his newfound chopping skills. I recreated this moment with a platter of finely minced fruit, including:
- Mandarin oranges
- Mango
- Blueberries
- Green grapes
- Raspberries
- Strawberries
Fairytales Can Come True Champagne – Custom Bottle for Tiana’s Grand Opening
Inspired by the champagne scene in the garden, I designed another custom wine label in Canva, calling it: Fairytales Can Come True – Tiana’s Place Grand Opening Private Reserve, New Orleans 2009. This bottle felt like the perfect final touch, celebrating the moment when all of Tiana’s hard work finally pays off!
Tiana’s Man-Catching Beignets
And, of course, we had to end with the most famous Disney treat of them all—Tiana’s legendary beignets. Light, fluffy, and covered in powdered sugar, these authentic New Orleans-style beignets are truly the perfect ending to a magical meal.
