The Sleeping Beauty Brunch Board of my Dreams

I have been building this brunch board series for a while now and there were a handful of films that were simply non-negotiable from day one. Sleeping Beauty was at the top of that list. It was almost embarrassingly obvious. A movie built around a birthday cake that two bickering fairies can’t agree on, a broom that becomes a plot device, a color war between pink and blue that lasts the entire runtime, and a villain who is so unhinged and gorgeous she has her own candle at Bath and Body Works. The food writes itself. If you love a good Disney themed brunch, you have to check out our Tangled Brunch Board, Beauty and the Beast Brunch or our Toy Story Brunch Board!
This Sleeping Beauty Brunch Board is Personal
I grew up absolutely loving Sleeping Beauty. I was obsessed with Aurora. When I was little, I always thought that if I had a daughter someday, I would name her Aurora and call her Rory. It is still one of my favorite names in the world. My husband and I have made the very intentional, very right-for-us decision not to have children, and I am at complete peace with that. But somewhere in the back of my heart there is still a little girl who wanted a daughter named Rory. So for now, Aurora is going on the puppy list, and this brunch board is the love letter I got to write instead. It was a genuinely good trade.
If you want the full Sleeping Beauty Dinner and Movie Night, that chapter lives inside my Magical Dinner and a Movie cookbook. But today we are doing brunch, and it is a good one. Stick around.

The Birthday Cake Donut Tower

Here is the thing about Merryweather and Flora’s cake situation: it is an absolute disaster and it is also completely perfect. The whole point is that the fairies have never baked a cake in their lives and it shows. It overflows, it leans, the candles are crooked. It is not supposed to look polished. It is supposed to look exactly like something made with chaotic good magic energy.
So I used nine glazed donuts.
I dipped each one first in white frosting to get a clean base, and then I piped the blue glaze on in that intentionally imperfect, dripping-everywhere way that the movie’s cake has. I used a donut display stand (linking it below because it is legitimately perfect for this) to stack them into a tower, piped yellow star details and border work around the top tier, and added pink birthday candles. The puff pastry broom is wedged in alongside it like it is holding the whole situation upright, which honestly tracks for how that cake was made.
The broom is something I am genuinely proud of. I took a half-inch wooden dowel, wrapped it entirely in foil, then wrapped strips of puff pastry around the base in a spiral. I cut the bristles by running a pizza cutter through the remaining pastry into thin strips, then draped them down and around the bottom of the broom until it looked full. A wider strip wrapped horizontally at the top of the bristle section finished the binding. Egg wash over everything, and then into the oven. The full recipe card is below.

Maleficent Quiche

I needed a savory anchor on this board and I knew it had to read Maleficent. Here is the thing: a quiche made with spinach and green onions naturally bakes up with a deep, vivid green surface. I did not plan that as the joke and then realize it worked. I planned it because it was always going to be the joke and I was right.
The filling is eggs, heavy cream, whole milk, Gruyère, feta, fresh baby spinach, and sliced green onions. The Gruyère gives it the nutty richness that makes a quiche actually worth eating. The feta brings brine and creaminess. Together they are doing a lot of heavy lifting, and the result is genuinely one of the best quiches I have ever made. Full recipe card is below.
Maleficent approved. Probably.

Aurora Crown Pop Tarts

I completely forgot to get a dedicated photo of the pop tarts and I am mildly devastated about it, but they are visible on the board and they are adorable. The concept is simple. I printed out an image of Aurora’s crown, cut it out as a template, and used it to cut crown shapes from refrigerated pie crust. Strawberry jam filling, a second crown pressed on top, edges crimped, egg wash, and baked. You could glaze them pink or yellow afterward if you wanted to lean into the princess energy. I left mine plain and they disappeared quickly.

Jump to RecipeMake It Pink / Make It Blue Pancake Stacks

The color war between Flora and Merryweather is the comedic backbone of this entire film. They are fighting over a dress for an entire hour. Pink. Blue. Pink. Blue. Merryweather keeps flipping it back and Aurora sleeps through the whole thing. I was always firmly on Team Blue as a child and I am not going to pretend otherwise.
For the pancakes I added a few drops of food coloring to each separate batter and cooked them stacked high. The blue stack got pink sprinkles on top of the whipped cream. The pink stack got blue sprinkles. That detail was intentional and I think it is the funniest part of the whole board. They are still fighting. Neither one wins. Full recipe card below for both.

Magic Wand Fruit Skewers
The fairies have wands. The board needed wands. I used a star-shaped cookie cutter on fresh watermelon for the star tops and threaded green grapes onto wooden skewers below them. Simple, bright, and it keeps the board from being all carbs, which was honestly the most magical thing about it.
Once Upon a Breakfast Sausage

Every good brunch board needs a protein and this one needed a name. Once Upon a Breakfast Sausage. I brown them until they have good color and a little char, pile them into a glass pedestal bowl, and they do their job. The custom tag does the heavy lifting aesthetically.
Make It Pink / Make It Blue Sparkling Drinks

Two drinks, two colors, zero arguing required because you get both. For the blue, a small splash of blue curaçao (alcoholic or non-alcoholic, your call) and a touch of blue luster dust stirred in gives you that vivid fairy-magic color. For the pink, a splash of Trader Joe’s guava strawberry juice with a pinch of pink luster dust. Use champagne if you are celebrating or sparkling water if you are keeping it light. Either way the colors are stunning and they photograph like a dream.

The Full Spread
Getting every element onto the board and seeing it come together is genuinely one of my favorite moments of this whole process. The donut tower with the lit candles, the broom wedged in beside it, Maleficent standing guard over the quiche, two perfect pancake stacks in pink and blue, the drinks glowing in champagne flutes, peonies and tulips for the color story. It is a lot of elements and somehow they all belong together.

Maleficent’s Quiche
Ingredients
- 1 refrigerated pie crust or homemade, fitted into a 9-inch pie dish
- 6 large eggs
- 1 cup heavy cream
- ½ cup whole milk
- 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
- ½ cup crumbled feta cheese
- 3 cups fresh baby spinach
- 4 green onions thinly sliced
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F. Fit the pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish, crimping the edges as desired. Set aside.
- Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the spinach and cook, stirring occasionally, until fully wilted, about 2 to 3 minutes. Transfer the cooked spinach to a clean kitchen towel or several layers of paper towels and wring out as much moisture as possible. Roughly chop and set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, and milk until fully combined and smooth.
- Stir in the garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Add the shredded Gruyère, crumbled feta, chopped cooked spinach, and sliced green onions. Stir until everything is evenly distributed.
- Pour the filling into the prepared pie crust. The spinach and green onions will rise to the surface as it bakes, creating that signature deep green top.
- Bake for 45 to 50 minutes, until the center is set and no longer jiggles when you gently shake the pan. The top should be golden at the edges and deep green in the center.
- Allow to cool for at least 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm or at room temperature.

The Puff Pastry Broom
Ingredients
- 1 sheet puff pastry thawed
- 1 wooden dowel ½ inch diameter, cut to desired height (approximately 12 to 14 inches works well for a board display)
- Aluminum foil
- 1 egg beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F or per your puff pastry package directions. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Wrap your wooden dowel entirely in aluminum foil, covering it completely. Set aside.
- On a lightly floured surface, unroll or unfold your puff pastry sheet. Cut the pastry into strips of varying widths: several thin strips approximately ¼ inch wide for the bristles, and one or two wider strips approximately ¾ to 1 inch wide for the handle wrap and the binding band.
- Take the wider strips and wrap them around the foil-wrapped dowel in a spiral from the base upward, overlapping slightly as you go. Press the edges gently to adhere.
- To create the bristles, drape the thin pastry strips over the lower portion of the dowel, letting them hang down and spread out naturally to mimic the look of a broom. Work your way around the dowel until the bristle section looks full.
- Take one wider strip and wrap it horizontally around the top of the bristle section to create a clean binding band, as you would see on a real broom handle. Press it gently to secure.
- Place the assembled broom on the prepared baking sheet. Brush all exposed pastry surfaces thoroughly with egg wash.
- Bake according to your puff pastry package directions until deep golden brown. Check partway through and if the bristles are browning faster than the handle, tent that section loosely with a small piece of foil.
- Allow to cool fully before handling or placing on your board. Once cool, the pastry will be firm enough to stand and support light weight.
Aurora Crown Pop Tarts
Ingredients
- 2 refrigerated pie crusts or one package containing two sheets
- ½ cup strawberry jam
- 1 egg beaten (for egg wash)
- Powdered sugar and milk for optional glaze
- Pink and yellow food coloring optional, for glaze
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Find or print an image of Aurora’s crown and cut it out to use as a template.
- Roll out your pie crusts on a lightly floured surface. Use the crown template and a small sharp knife or pastry wheel to cut out as many crown shapes as possible. You will need two matching crowns per pop tart.
- Place half of the cut crowns onto the prepared baking sheet.
- Spoon approximately 1 to 1½ teaspoons of strawberry jam into the center of each bottom crown, leaving a border around the edges clear.
- Place a matching crown piece on top of each filled crown. Use a fork to press and crimp all edges together firmly to seal.
- Brush the tops lightly with egg wash.
- Bake for 18 to 22 minutes, until golden and cooked through.
- Allow to cool completely before glazing if desired. For a simple glaze, mix powdered sugar with just enough milk to reach a drizzle consistency, then tint pink or yellow with a small drop of food coloring.
