Tiana’s Man Catching Beignets – A Princess and the Frog Inspired Recipe

If there’s one thing Tiana taught us, it’s that a little bit of hard work (and a sprinkle of powdered sugar) can make dreams come true. And if you’ve ever watched The Princess and the Frog, you already know that beignets are the true star of her menu. Light, pillowy, and covered in a dreamy dusting of sugar, these little golden puffs are the taste of New Orleans in every bite.

A Taste of NOLA & A Birthday to Remember

Last year, I celebrated my 40th birthday in New Orleans, and let me tell you – the food was pure magic. Every bite felt like stepping into a jazz-infused wonderland, but nothing hit quite like the Cafe du Monde beignets. That first bite was heaven, especially since we’d been doing keto at the time (yes, this was a hard-earned carb moment). So, when Mardi Gras rolled around, I knew we had to recreate the experience at home, Princess and the Frog style.

A Mardi Gras Movie Night to Remember

For this Princess and the Frog dinner, we went all in on the flavors of the bayou. The full menu included:

  • Swamp Water Cocktail/Mocktail – A fun and murky green drink that fits right in with the Bayou setting.
  • Daddy’s Gumbo – A hearty, flavorful dish inspired by Tiana and her father’s love for cooking.
  • New Orleans Jambalaya – A spicy and savory classic that screams Louisiana comfort food.
  • Ray’s Cheddar Jalapeno Cornbread – A nod to our favorite firefly, sweet with a little heat.
  • Tiana’s Man Catching Beignets – The perfect sweet ending, light and dreamy just like the movie.

We kept it simple with just a dusting of powdered sugar, staying true to the classic Café du Monde experience. No fancy fillings, no crazy toppings – just authentic New Orleans-style beignets that melt in your mouth.

Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside—these homemade beignets are just like the ones from Café du Monde, but made in your own kitchen!

How to Make Beignets (The Easy & Authentic Way!)

Making beignets from scratch is totally doable, but patience is key. The dough needs time to rise, and for me. that’s the hardest part –waiting! But if you’ve got a stand mixer, the process becomes incredibly simple. No mixer? No worries! Kneading by hand still gets the job done.

💡 Short on time? If you want to cheat a little, you can use canned biscuit dough! Just cut, fry, and dust with sugar—easy peasy.

✨ Eat these warm, fresh, and unapologetically covered in sugar. Because New Orleans wouldn’t have it any other way. 🏵️🎺

Pro Tips for the Perfect Beignets

  1. Let the dough rise properly! It’s tempting to rush, but fluffy beignets need that time to develop texture.
  2. Use a stand mixer with a dough hook if you have one. It makes everything easier.
  3. Fry in small batches. Overcrowding the oil lowers the temp and gives you greasy beignets instead of light, crisp ones.
  4. Eat them fresh! Beignets are best within minutes of frying (as if you could wait!).
