Wicked Dinner and a Movie Night: Pink, Green, and Pure Magic

There are some movies that hit you right in the theater-kid soul, even when you never actually made it to Broadway. Wicked has always been one of those stories for me. I grew up singing every word of the soundtrack, dreaming of belting my face off under bright lights, and pretending I had even a fraction of Idina Menzel’s vocal power. I saw Wicked at the Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles when I was younger, and it was one of those core memories that never really left. I was a singer long before I was anything else, and Idina was my girl crush and my vocal idol. I still scream-sing Rent’s “Take Me or Leave Me” like it’s a personality trait.

So when the new Wicked movie dropped, you better believe I was ready to step into Oz with a full Wicked dinner and a movie night. I had every intention of getting this out before the movie released, but life said “Nope, not today.” So here we are. Better late than never when there is magic involved.

This dinner night is also extra fun because it is not my first Wicked feast. If you want even more ideas, you can check out the first Wicked dinner night I created last year right here on the blog. This new version is brighter, easier, and the perfect mix of Glinda’s pink sparkle and Elphaba’s unapologetic green energy.

Let’s fly.

Why I Chose Wicked This Week

Two reasons.
One: nostalgia. Pure, deep, musical-theater-kid nostalgia.
Two: the new movie came out yesterday, and I simply did not get my act together in time to plan and film this before release. Real talk. But once the movie dropped, and the cast started trending everywhere, it felt like the perfect moment to jump in anyway.

Sometimes you just have to trust the timing. And honestly, the timing worked. This menu is approachable, colorful, and absolutely delicious. It is the kind of meal anyone can recreate, even if they are not usually a “themed dinner night” person. You do not need a cauldron or a magic wand. You just need pink, green, and a little whimsy.

This Week’s Wicked Dinner Theme

The heart of this dinner is the contrast between Elphaba and Glinda. Green and pink. Sharp and soft. Moody and sparkly. Dramatic and bubbly. I leaned into those colors for the whole meal, from the cocktails to the cupcakes. I did not style the room with props this time because I honestly did not need to. The food and my Philips Hue lights did all the talking. A green wash across the room. A pink pop behind the desserts. A little shimmer in the cocktails. It created this easy, magical vibe without extra fuss.

The menu itself is playful and theater-kid approved. Here is what we made.

The Wicked Menu

Appetizers

Defying Gravity Greens
A bright, simple green salad tossed with Chick-fil-A avocado ranch and feta. Light, crisp, and a great backdrop for the star of the show.

Bread Brooms
These are one of my favorite things on the table. They look detailed but they are actually so simple to make. I used a single sheet of puff pastry and cut eight thin strips for the handles. Each strip got a quick twist and went straight onto the baking sheet. Then I cut a small rectangle of pastry for the broom head, sliced fringe using a pizza cutter, and draped the fringe over the twisted handle. They bake up golden and flaky, and the shape holds beautifully. They also double as the cutest salad garnish ever.

Main Course

Shiz Kabobs
The name alone made me laugh. These kabobs are loaded with seasoned chicken, zucchini, bell peppers, and red onion. They are oven-broiled to get that hint of char that usually only comes from grilling. Colorful, hearty, and perfect for a dinner that is meant to feel fun, not fussy.

Yellow Brick Rice
A bright lemon turmeric rice that I made in the rice cooker. It tastes sunny and warm and ties right into the Oz theme. If you want to keep it extremely easy, you can make this with a box of Rice-A-Roni. I always love giving an option for the nights when you want the look without the labor.

Dessert

Pink Goes Good With Green Cupcakes
Betty Crocker gifted me this adorable Wicked-inspired cupcake kit, and I had no idea whether the cake mix would bake pink or green. Mine came out bright green, which could not have been more perfect. The box came with white frosting, so I split it, colored it pink and green, and piped a dramatic ombre swirl on top. A little iridescent glitter spray from Fancy Sprinkles gave them the perfect Glinda sparkle.

Drinks

For Wicked (Green Shimmer Drink)
Green Hawaiian Punch served in a champagne flute. You can add champagne or vodka if you want it boozy. I garnished mine with a tiny witch hat and broom.

For Good (Pink Bubble Drink)
Strawberry ICE sparkling water served in a flute with the option to add vodka. For the video, I poured the drink into a clear food-safe ornament first to mimic Glinda’s bubble. A star wand stirred it all together. Glittery and gorgeous.

Both drinks shimmer like spells under good lighting. They are so simple but look so over the top.

Behind the Scenes

This dinner night was calm, quick, and easy. No set design. No props. No chaos. Just good food and a fun theme. I did not show my face on camera this time. I kept the focus on the menu and the colors. Honestly, it felt nice to keep this one simple. For the amount of flavor and visual payoff, this dinner required almost zero stress.

It also made me smile that so much of this came together with shortcuts. A store-bought cupcake kit. A drink that starts with Hawaiian Punch. A rice cooker moment. This is the kind of dinner you can pull off on a weeknight and still feel like you created something magical.

💡 Turn Movie Nights Into Cinematic Moments

Sync your lights with every scene.

My favorite way to make dinner and a movie nights feel like you’re inside the film?
Philips Hue TV smart lights.

They sync with your TV or music to flood the room in color — from the glowing savannah of The Lion King to the spooky purples of Hocus Pocus.

Once you’ve seen your lights change with the movie, you’ll never go back..

How to Recreate This Wicked Dinner Night

Here are the steps to make this at home.

  1. Set your lighting to pink and green. Even if you do nothing else, this instantly creates the Wicked vibe.
  2. Make the Bread Brooms first so they can cool while you prep the rest.
  3. Toss together your Defying Gravity Greens with whatever dressing you love.
  4. Assemble the Shiz Kabobs with chicken, red onion, zucchini, and bell peppers. Broil or bake until lightly charred.
  5. While the kabobs cook, make your Yellow Brick Rice in the rice cooker or on the stove.
  6. Bake your cupcakes and pipe on the pink and green frosting in a fun swirl. Glitter optional but highly recommended.
  7. Pour the Wicked and For Good drinks into flutes, garnish, and let the shimmer shine.
  8. Start the movie and enjoy a night in Oz.

It is so easy. It is so colorful. And it tastes incredible.
